Bukhara in Uzbekistan is an ancient oasis city along the fabled Silk Route and it is said that the sun shines up from the city for it is so noble. For centuries it was a centre of trade and Islam, earning the title Bukhoro-i-Sharif, or "Noble Bukhara" among Muslims (one of the seven holy cities of Islam). The city itself boasts impressive architecture and history. It is one of the few places in Central Asia where one can feel the heartbeat of ancient Central Asia. Most of the city remains intact and most of the 250,000 inhabitants are members of families who have lived there for generations upon generations.
Central Asia’s holiest city, Bukhara, which is more than 2,000 years old, has buildings spanning a thousand years of history, and a thoroughly lived-in old centre that probably hasn’t changed much in two centuries. It is one of the best places in Central Asia for a glimpse of pre-Russian Turkestan.
Most of the centre is an architectural preserve, full of madressas, a massive royal fortress and the remnants of a once-vast market complex.
The early 16th century Mir-i-Arab Medrassa (school) is part of the Kalon mosque complex and stands opposite the Kalon Mosque in the historic center of Bukhara. It is noted for some of the most exquisite and intricate arabesque tile mosaics in Central Asia. Founded in the 16th century, the Islamic school features two distinctive blue domes and other tilework.
The medrassa is off-limits to tourists, but its facade can be enjoyed from Kalon Square.

your photo is fantastic, a marvelous presentation of the alluring, iconic architecture. The fascination of the details and the colours is overwhelming, you've achieved amazing sharpness, depth and graphism. I love the lighting effect on the wisely asymmetrical frame in the foreground. The human presence and the play of light and shadow all over enriches the view in surprising and very lovely ways. Outstanding work, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

Une photo que j'aurais beaucoup aimé prendre moi-même.J'aime que les personnages soient en ombres chinoises et j'aime aussi la très belle lumière sur l'édifice.De toute beauté.

The presence of the people is adding life to the scene. The length of the square is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the Mir-I-Arab Madrassa. The good luminosity is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

the quality of this picture is great. I love the way you handled the light which wasn't easy probably. All the parts of the photo, the ones in sunshine and also the ones in shadow are beautifully detailed. The doors which offer interesting framing to the image have very nice and decorative moment and they make an impression of the gates to some special place.
Very pretty architecture and lovely presented.
Thanks for sharing

You opened the door to country not to much seeing on TE. Through beautiful door you showed gorgeous architecture of Mir-I-Arab Madrassa. The walls are full of tiled mosaics and to bad that a tourist can't go inside.
The silhouetted persons in the FG made perfect classic composition. Great quality of the photo as well interesting note.

This is a fantastic mosque and you have captured it very well. The large wooden gates frame the view perfectly, and while the people in the courtyard don't add a lot of colours they really make the view pleasantly lively. The colours and sharpness of the façade and domes are superb.
PaulVDV (21069) 2014-05-16 10:49
WOW! This picture certainly makes my mouth water and long for a visit of Bukhara.
Excellent view through the entrance door.
Fascinating architecture in wonderful colours!
The people on the foreground add much life so we can see this isn't just a museum city.
Best regards, Paul

This facade, with its intricate designs, is simply stunning. I also love the turquoise color of the domes and the pointed arches. Your presentation, with some silhouettes in the foreground, and the lovely open doors on either side, is really great. This looks like a scene out of an ancient fairytale.
jjcordier (74424) 2014-05-16 22:15
Cette architecture est magnifique. La lumière et les couleurs sont splendides et la composition de la photo très réussie avec les portes qui s'ouvrent sur la merveille et les personnages-silhouettes en premier plan.

welcome back, wanderer. your first photo is a striking one, one which comes to mind when bukhara is mentioned. great light and colors, and a pp show revealing the details on the doors. achieving perfect symmetry is sometimes really difficult, i wonder why, it also happens to me, causing me to spend lots of time in a single spot. there in the shadows, i almost recognize lopa, or i might be wrong :)

The symmetry and light management is excellent Angshu. Uzbekistan how wonderful!

Excellent pic showing a very good architecture.
The architecture is quite similar as used by the Moghuls in India. Like in Taj mahal, Red Fort in Delhi and other buildings.
Well composed and good colour pic.
Thanks for sharing.

wow this is so beautiful. Your composition I believe squeezed all the best of this POV. The golden gate makes a wonderful framing and its details are so well enhanced by reflecting some residual light. The full symmetry is very pleasant for the eye. Silhouettes of people do not disturb but even add a nice touch of life and action. The architecture itself is spectacular, great light allowed you to capture it in fantastic eye catching colors.
Excellent work! Even for this photo only it was worth the trip!!
pili51 (1005) 2014-05-27 13:06
What an amazing architectural shot! you certainly have an eye for detail, a great ability to translate them to the photographic image with consummate skill. Very symmetrical composition.
Brilliant detail and textures, super tones and contrasted by the blue sky and your exposure control is so seamless.
Congrats and tfs

I missed this when I was away and I have to comment now. It is a very fine shot; beautifully detailed, well composed and I love the placement of the shadowed figures which add so much to the shot without detracting from the wonderful architecture.
tatadalou (5799) 2014-06-02 11:56
A marvellous photo for a marvellous place ! Excellent framing, with the opened door making a nice foreground. You managed very well the lights and shadows and the sharpness.

Its about finding right symmetry first and then the light. Sometime i just step back and wonder if this is best representation of Man, patience and simplicity.
The little window inside the dome, where you can see the sky...mesmerising.
