Another shot from the finals of the world tango championships - this time the silver medalists in the show tango category (see previous photos for fuller notes on the festival and competition itself).
This was my favourite couple: their choreography really told a story, they worked together beautifully and in this shot, I think I managed to capture the erotic side of tango dancing: I was really pleased with the head positions especially. Just a shame about the plastic chairs in the background: the back part of the stage was set out for a tango band which played later on.
The title comes from one of the most famous tango songs by unarguably the most famous tango singer: Carlos Gardel.
Once again 200mm lens, a long way from the stage, so no flash, high ISO and taking advantage of the stage lighting.

the best of the series maybe, even I don't like sqaure format most of the time (only coming from 120 films). Because of the red, the colour of passion.
Love the pose of the dancers and their expressions.
A very good one.
CLODO (34928) 2010-09-02 6:34
Unusual picture on TE, so very attractive. Good timing to take their attitude, fully concentrated, a sensual moment; astonishing hues, the red skirt exploding in your picture.
Well thought and taken.
mauarg (1758) 2010-09-02 9:55
This tango series is very beaultiful. I´ve seen a tango show in Buenos Aires once and it really catches our attention. The couple seem to be really involved in the tango mood. Very well done !! Perfect timing...

I love to watch dancing and dancing pictures and this is no exception. The red dress is a gorgeous swatch of colpur against th dark. This is so sensuous and so right.I see what you mean about their heads, eroctic yes.
I have a group theme 'Come Dancing' and will add this to it, if that's ok with you?
jemaflor (99171) 2010-09-02 12:44
Interesting attitude well captured, a good shot even sharpness is not perfect, just a detail
delpeoples (58856) 2010-09-02 15:26
Hi Iain, the tango is the king of all dances and you've captured all the emotion and sensuality of it here. I think the choice not to use a flash was an excellent one. The high ISO maintained the intimate lighting (a flash would have ruined that for sure) and also allowed for a better sense of movement. I can see why this couple were your favourites. Great cropping and the positioning of your subjects (again not an easy thing) is well chosen and executed. About the chairs, these could probably be de-emphasised by a selective Gaussian Blur of the area. Will try it in a separate Workshop when not rushing off to work. TFS and I wish you a beautiful evening, Lisa (PS: Wow: Namibian- German meets crazy Scot and moves to Argentina...can it get any more exotic? :)

Ciao dear Iain,
movement, passion, intensity perfectly captured in this image absolutely fantastic. You have really created the atmosphere of the tango, in a photographic masterpiece. Sincere compliments!
Ciao, have a nice Friday!

Thought it is not easy to make interior photo under low light condition, beautiful costumes and make-up, I like the dance and music, I saw this competition in TV news too, interesting composition, thanks for sharing.
Graal (103034) 2010-09-03 0:00
fine caught moment, good shot and presentation of tango. An interesting reportage from the championships.
Have a nice day.
Royaldevon (40380) 2010-09-03 2:10
The conditions were far from perfect for photography but you have captured more than an image, you have captured a mood. It is hot, it is senuous, it is moody, tango dancing as we see it displayed by professionals, on t.v. I love it.
Have a good day,
wgreis (8267) 2010-09-03 6:58
The photo has a nostalgic feel and a texture that pleases. The sensation of movement is present and looks great.
I made a WAS, I hope you enjoy.
Congratulations and hug.

Hi Iain. Dance. Classic, expressive, beautiful. Excellent written. Good handling of light. Compliment. Regards, Wolfgang.
crhieatt (5347) 2010-09-05 16:29
Another cool shot which, again, gains atmosphere from the high iso - at least in my view!
It hovers somewhere between reality, 1950s poster, and a posed model in a wax-work museum - that would be the Tango waxwork Museum. You might just be in the ideal place to start such a venture - but don't, it would be madness!
AROBN54 (11475) 2010-09-05 19:01
Wow, Iain, what a shot!
There is life and movement and emotion in it. Rich, dramatic color, I love the lighting. It looks like a scene from one of those wonderful old movies. That is just TOO good. My word. Many thanks and kindest wishes
mkamionka (38433) 2010-09-06 3:52
yes indeed this one is very much erotically charged. The red dress enhancess that feeling too. The noise due to high iso makes an interesting atmosphere here -it seems like a old photograph.
Very well captured,
PS which place in BA would you recommend to see a good tango show?
Ninello52 (7576) 2010-09-06 11:00
Molto bravo a cogliere in questo scatto un momento di posa bellissimo! Molto bello ed elegante il gesto dei due ballerini, c'è il sapore, la passione la sensualità del ballo! Bravo!
kato (11630) 2010-09-07 3:54
Well composed, well captured and passionate photograph!
You're capturing well this attractive moment of tango and draw out a good mood.
I think that the comparison of the black and red is very suitable for this scene.
clio (27961) 2010-09-07 23:01
You caught a fantastic moment with a great sensuality. 3200 iso give a particular grain and I think that you also strengthened the neatness what gives the aspect of an old photo, as a colorized photo of the 50s. It creates an extraordinary atmosphere.
Really well done, congratulations
ciakgiak (30431) 2010-09-08 12:02
what a splendid image!!! The timing is perfect, you captured a fantastic posture of the couple. The colors and the light are superb.
jafadabret (56501) 2010-09-09 23:06
Cette photo pourrait faire une très belle affiche. Les gestes sont très beaux et font penser à une peinture de Goya.
tapdur (47) 2010-09-10 5:31
i love this photo so tipicaly from your country.
there is the life, passion, love and fight !
kinginexile (2598) 2010-09-12 10:19
We can regret the heavy noise and need for high ISO, but it's all compensated by you catching what is so perennial about the tango. Passion, movement, and the assertiveness that makes this dance what a night of love-making would be to a romance.
Tango is love-making!
tchefi (1841) 2010-09-15 5:33
angelheart (475) 2010-10-04 13:52
great shot -so expresive and interesting attitude well captured excellent this tango series
JCG (35129) 2010-10-09 3:02
The Argentinian tango, it is most beautiful… Very beautiful photograph of this intense moment between these two dancers, misses clearness which I appreciate here with this filtered light and the colors, that gives an effect of painting. Well done Iain.
With all my friendships and a very good WE,
yquem46 (38752) 2010-10-10 11:48
A shot of pure sensuality, by the attitude, the red color of passion...
A great shot Iain
andywo (4725) 2010-10-11 9:44
Very well captured scene! Nice colours and lights.
Selmik (3625) 2010-10-19 20:34
Good evening Iain,
of course, I realize that posting photographs like this (about deer and car) is a perpetuation, but it is above me not to post them :-). It is neat, cute and wonderful to see such an alliance between Nature and Man. Unfortunately, in my motherland someone will never see picture like this and that is why every time I see something like this I am anxious to memorize it and share with other people :-)
I will come back later to your other tango photograph, but, for now, I stopped my breath right here. It is so attractive, so emotional and expressive that can be only in tango dance, only TWO and music, only TWO and their feelings, their emotions only TWO and their passion - these are all TANGO, the most beautiful and emotional dance on the planet!
Thank You Iain - excellent shot.
Angshu (56760) 2010-10-23 9:14
I had been, on & off checking your gallery but sadly did not have time to crtq! Your series of the tango is from a different plane, at least for me, a photographer with limited capabilities! The vitality, the energy, the sensuality oozing out in each of these pictures...magnificent! and none can be more than this picture! I'm sorry I chose an older post of yours to comment on, but the sheer beauty of this prompted me to. Excellent work!
PS : The WS done by Wagner is interesting, but missing the red, the colour of susuality
s_lush (16454) 2010-10-24 9:04
You have captured a really decisive moment of the tango performance, when the poses of the partners are so elegant and impassioned. Perfectly good snap!
sevy (58) 2010-10-26 2:27
Nice shot because there is a real piece of ambiance. First with the overall red color and second or perhaps especially because of the 2 dancers. To my mind this photo is evidencing what is tango.
The photo is a bit soft, first I was thinking for a low shutter speed, but seems more related to an issue of focus, not so easy to manage with long focal lenght.
Tukan-T5 (4317) 2010-10-28 7:59
tango, art, way of being and a great view.
Congratulations, excellent photo.
Have a nie weekend Tomasz

And this is TANGO: de sensual position and the intesity of the expression shows what Tango is about.
yeln (11516) 2010-11-15 22:35
čeprav nekoliko meglena fotografija, vseeno govori o veliki strasti do plesa! zelo dobro! TFS!
lep dan, vojko
adramad (47022) 2010-11-19 7:45

Tango is really a passion in all the senses...
The quaternary compass of the tango and the beautiful staccato are audible in this fantastic and impressive instantaneous shot.
