Fantastic capture here. Amazing detail in the skin and shawl of this woman. You seem to have a never-ending supply of amazing photos from India. Can't wait for the next one!
Kind regards, Michele.

excellent portrait. Her eyes are very affective, I feel myself in India...

Wow! This one is powerful, Caleb! The glance, the hunger and the fear to lack of something, in it; the sharpness and details of her wrinkled skin; the white-yellow-red eyes, that go well with the walls, which increase the morbidity feeling... The composition is once more excellent and beyond the remarkable colors and textures you made an impressive portrait! Congratulations!

My goodness- the expression in her eyes is so holding. 'Real portrait' is what I call this. Its a masterpiece.

It would be highly inappropriate to write that I really like the eyes, but...another mini-masterpiece.

A nice, spontaneous portrait with documentary value, one of the images that stays deep in my memory.

Great portrait Caleb. Perfect timing, exposure and lighting. Nice background also. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was "My God, could you imagine living a life like this". It really makes me think how lucky I am.

Incredible shot, this one. The woman is surely stricken by hunger and despair, yet there is a gleam in her eye and clearly she hasn't lost the will to live. The light is perfect in this outstanding portrait. A very affecting portrait, with the sharp detail only adding to our wonderment at how those who have nothing manage to live.

Wow, is the first thought when I view this. Wonderful composition, and the lady looking directly at the camera adds to the impact. Superb exposure. It's a little unfortunate that the right hand is out of focus, but greater DOF would also probably have brought the wall into sharp focus too. On balance, most definitely the correct decision made for the shot.

This one is on my top ten! You were able to capture the weather skin, light of the moment, and most importantly the eyes.

Fantastic ! Her look, the details of the skin, the framing and the BG... I like it all - but feel surprised by the porcelain that she is holding, it makes a curious contrast with the other tones and it looks so incongruous - anyway, I love it !

I don't know why I have overlooked your gallery as it is captivating. This woman's eyes go into me deep. The colour and texture of her papery skin and the pattern and texture of her head scarf seem to unite as if it is unclear where one begins and another ends. The itle, is it from Rider Haggard?
marietom (34609) 2008-09-08 11:56

Your timing is perfect for capturing splendid expression on her face. Her drinking style, deep tracks on skin wonderfully captured. Colors and lights are unique as usual. Congratulations.

Which excellent portrait Kaleb, the expression is perfectly captured. I like here the harmony of the skin colours and the drape getting loose on this typically Indian very colored bottom - beautiful success - my best regards - daniel

the power of her eyes is astonishing... A story that doesn't need words...
I'm considering a trip to Kutchh... any advices?
Will search for village people and colours.

This is the best portrait I have seen on this site and perhaps one of the best anywhere. Her eyes make me want to turn away like she really caught me staring at her. Amazing achievement!
