Photographer's Note

Window in the Håkon`s Hall, Bergen. The Håkon`s Hall was built by the Norwegian King Håkon Håkonson in the years 1247 - 1261. The Hall was royal residence and banqueting hall. The son of King Håkon Håkonson Magnus Lagabøte married the danish princess Ingebjørg in this building in 1261, with 2000 guests invited. The walls are up to three meters thick. At the time Bergen was Norways largest and most important city. The building was restored in the last half of the 19th century. An explotion at Bergen harbour in 1944 destroyed much of the restoration work that was done. Once again the building was restored and was reopened in 1961.
