Photographer's Note
A couple of days ago I showed some anglers in southern Lebanon. Well, people tried to catch fish in Beirut too. This is from the Corniche, the main street along the Mediterranean coast. The picture was taken in 1995, when Beirut was rising from the ashes of civil war and a major construction boom had started.
Scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hej Gert,
very interesting composition. I like to see a bit of "very alien" life which is so far away from me. Many interesting details, and a lot of sunshine and contrast light!
If people only went fishing instead of fighting the world would be a much, much nicer place to live in!
I wonder what that man on the left is thinking about? Perhaps he's looking at you while you're taking a shot!
best regards,
Elena

The scanned photo has some special atmosphere in itself...
But I must say, the sea doesn't look very inviting...looks like it was quite dirty...or is it just an impression....?
Our yesterday's talk kept me awake for....hours. I looked into HIS galleries, ....well, you have a part of my dream as you reach out and touch....
Good job, friend!

A conventionally framed view Gert, a bit 'postcardy' perhaps, but I like it for some reason. Maybe it's the slightly strange colours, looking a bit cross-processed, that have lent the photo a certain atmosphere and look.
Anyway, it's certainly more interesting than it would have been shot on a digital camera, with the perfect plastic colour.
Cheers,
Ben

Hej Gert,
The fishing rods here are held at a lot of different angles. A slightly chaotic scenery... You should have told them to arrange the rods uniformly to improve your composition. Did they catch anything?

Hi Gert, I amazed to see how much you travelled and how good photos you made. These scanned photos have very good quality. Interesting view of the fishermen. I wonder, did they caught many fish? Good vcolours and sharpness.

Hello Gert
Fishing lines galore - obviously a popular activity in Beirut. Your photo gives a good impression of the Corniche and post war Lebanon. Just a little over sharpened but tfs. Marlene

Hej, Gert,
I have not often seen the photos from Lebanon. I remember this country in the breaking news of 1982.
Another interesting report. Thanks.
Best wishes from Turkey,
Serghei
