Photographer's Note

The rice terraces at Banaue and Batad "were hewn from the land 2000 years ago by Ifugao tribespeople using primitive tools...called the "Stairways to Heaven" by the Ifugaos, the terraces would stretch 20 000 km if laid out end to end." (The Rough Guide).

The terraces were recently added to the UN World Heritage List. Pictured here are the terraces at Batad.
