Photographer's Note

On my last day in Barcelona my flight was at 9.15 p.m. so I had a day of just wandering around camera in hand, having left my luggage with my very kind and friendly guest house owner.

I was down in the Barri Gotic (Gothic quarter) just walking aimlessly and kept stumbling across little squares, which all had some form of public artwork in them. This celebration of art and sculpture in all areas of Barcelona - rich and poor alike - is really part of the cultural heartbeat of the city. Or at least that's how it seemed to me. The celebration of art is in some ways, what makes Barcelona quite unique - there is a real passion for it everywhere from the many, many museums to the run down squares with sculptures such as this one.

As you can see the ladies were doing lunch here making this sculpture part of their everyday life and routine. What better way to celebrate art than through meeting there and engaging in the life affirming activity of eating great takeaway Spanish food!
