Photographer's Note

This is my first image from my trip on the beach of Normandie during february 2010.

This was a trip really particular on the beaches where the soldiers landed on the 6th of june 1944 during the second world war. It is a sad part of our story but we have to keep it into memory in order to prevent it in the future.

This assault involved 175 000 troops. The landings took place along a 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coast divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

Arromanches was the sector Gold, it is why the beach is called Gold Beach. Arromanches has been used to set two artificial harbors called "Mulberry Harbours". It is why we can see a lot of caissons which were used to built the harbor.

For more detail on the Normandy Landings you can refer to the wikipedia page on the subject.

I hope you will like this new serie
