Photographer's Note

Momument to the landmovers and travellers.

Some people travel for fun,
others for business,
some to escape poverty or prosecution,
others just because.

Last post for a while for me,
there's some travelling to do.

Antwerp was a port of leaving for many people. From the late 19th century up to World War II more than 2 million Europeans set sail from Antwerp to take up a new life in North America. Most of them travelled on the Red Star Line.

This monument evokes those landmovers. In the background is a part of the MAS (Museum aan de Stroom), Antwerp's landmark museum dedicated to art, life and trade on the river.

The statue by Tom Frantzen represents Jan Van Ryswyck, who was the mayor of Antwerp in the end of the 19th century.

This picture is a follow-up to a wider view from this area that I posted earlier.

Enjoy & see you later!
