Classical U Bein, a photo from Mandalay, North

Photographer's Note

Yes, I know. You have seen this view a lot of times. it is very classic. But even though there are marvelous photos of sunset at U Bein bridge, I just post another one, mine.
In Mandalay there are many things to see, Royal Palace (I posted yesterday), two beautiful teak wood monasteries, the biggest book in the world on more the 700 marble stelas, famous Mahamuni Temple... We saw this and the next day with a shared taxi we went to see the old capitals: Amarapura, Sagaing and Ava/Innwa.
When King Mindon moved the capital from Amarapura to Mandalay, he dismantled old palace moved by elephants to build new one and from the unwanted teak columns also this famous bridge was constructed. It measures 1200 m and is the longest teak bridge in the world. We were there twice - in the morning, to see long queue of monks in the nearby monastery, and in the evening. The tourists (and photographers) from the whole area come to see sunset behind the bridge. The best way is to go by boat. The view is fabulous. I simply can't resist...

Hello Malgorzata. The U-Bein Bridge. Yes, this old wooden bridge is an absolute attraction. Here, people are constantly on the road, here is full of life. Especially at sunset, the scenery looks wonderful. Your beautiful photo reminds me of my stay in Burma many years ago. Rgds, Wolfgang.

I lovely sunset composition with the bridge silhouetted against that gorgeous toned sky. The atmosphere is much enhanced by the people enjoying the last of the day's sun. Superb presentation.

Fantastic repetition of the silhouetted pylons, pier & people, & wonderful symmetrical reflections. A marvellous sunset to cap it all off. Good timing also to get the sun touching the horizon. A few moments earlier = oe, a few moments later = ue.

Małgosiu,
piszę ostatnio bardzo mało krytyk, ale tym razem zdecydowałam się nie tylko podpisać, ale również pogratulować Ci tak wspaniałego zdjęcia. Jest naprawdę piękne. Widziałam różne na TREKu z tego samego miejsca, wszystkie były imponujące, bo miejsce jest niezwykle urokliwe, ale Twoje, w świetle zachodzącego słońca jest wspaniałe!
Już niedługo będę też w dalekiej Azji, bardziej uprzemysłowionej, ale również egzotycznej. Odwiedzę miejsca mego pobytu z 2006 roku, plus Hakone, do ktorego niestety, wtedy nie dojechałam...
Teraz mam na głowie dwie małe, bardzo absorbujące wnuczki, podróż będzie zasłużonym odpoczynkiem.

Hello Malgorsta,
Classic indeed. Your own picture is always the one closest to your heart, no matter how many others have taken the same view. The colours and reflections are terrific and the silhouettes of people are so perfect it almost makes me think people are ordered to walk across the bridge just for the benefit of the tourista with their cameras.
When I first travelled in Asia there was no Internet, no Trekeart, hardly even any modern guidebooks to these strange countries, so when in Mandalay I didn't know this bridge existed. Similar things happened to me several times.

Bonjour Malgorzata,

On part souvent pour un voyage dans une nouvelle contrée avec une image en tête. Il faut la prendre même si plusieurs l'on fait avant nous, simplement parce que c'était un but à atteindre.

Rzeczywiscie trudno bylo niskorzystac z takiej sytuacji nieuwieczniajac takiej peretki. Az nie do wiary ze to taki dlugi drewniany most. To jest niesamowite. Wspaniale wykonane zdjecie. Wschod slonca przepieknie uchwycony wraz z mostem i sylwetkami ludzie przechodzacych przez niego. Wspaniala praca. Warto bylo zrobic takie wspaniale zdjecie, to tez badzo Ci dziekuje ze mamy taka mozliwosc podzielenia sie wspanialymi miejscami uwiecznionymi na zdjeciach takie jak ten. Podoba mi sie bardzo. Such interesting notes!
This looks like a photographer's paradise!
You were quite right to post your shot of the bridge. Many of us capture places that others have posted but each shot carries the personality of the photographer; we all see things slightly differently.
This reminds me of people walking on stilts.
Fine sharpness, lovely composition and great control of the light.

Another beautiful picture of yours from Burma!

It might be a classical view, but this view is yours! And a fine capture it is too, with beautiful colours and excellent detail. I love the bridge and the sunset but even more the figures on the bridge silhouetted against the bright sky and the setting sun.

Superb capture of a classic teakwood bridge taken at sunset and you are sure lucky when the river is at high tide. Excellent framing and good positioning, with those semi silhouetted padestrians are quite nicely spread out filling the space. Gorgeous evening warm tones as the setting sun is just above the horizon, a truly majestic capture with myterious feel and nostalgia. Great photo work. Congrats

yes, you're right, there are many photos of this famous bridge - but this one is YOURS!
love seeing the silhouettes lined up along the top, and the romantic hues of orange with pale blues.
