After a long rainy winter, the rain has been falling almost without stop for the last few weeks. For that reason, the Alqueva, the biggest artifficial lake in Europe and the biggest dam in Western Europe had to open its spillways a few days ago, as it was reaching its maximum.
I took this photo yesterday, but on the 1st april the spillways were releasing around 1600 cubic meters per second in the Guadiana River. The place became a big attraction these last days, for the Portuguese and also for the Spanish, as it's not that far from the border.

The view of the rushing water is amazing. The size is amazing as you have included people in the frame for scale. The image is beautiful in monochromatic appeal in the frame.
Thanks for sharing and have a great week ahead.

Monochrome captures the mood of this scene much more than color could. You have created a really strong composition with great light, excellently framed in landscape format. Excellently captured water motion. Well done. V+F

This is an impressive image with a steep downward POV in a black and white texture. The movement of the water is well caught and the people give perspective. I would like to hear the sound of this rushing water.

Wow, what a sensation of power you have captured here! The image suits so perfectly in black and white, and the gushing torrent of water looks superb. Brilliant idea to have the shot composed like this, the inclusion of the people shows the immense size of the rush of the water. Really nice point of view, and great shot.
All the best

This is an incredible view, almost hard to imagine. It's a great natural phenomenon and also a graphically very attractive picture. The enormous amounts of water make the people watching look incredibly small and vulnerable. You probably found the best possible POV.
ikeharel (72955) 2013-04-08 9:13
Magnificent water in abundance, let go... Hope will not be missed by summer's end.
Most impressive view downwards, I can imagine the roar of the spill.
fine chosen POV from higher ground, good choice to post in B&W.

Sensational capture here, of the awesome power of water ! The sense of movement and the amazing force and energy of that rushing water is very well conveyed here and perfectly captured. The high POV provides a breathtaking view and makes for a spectacular image. The picture is sharp and clear, I love the way it is presented. The group of people is an important element to create a sens of scale. Overwhelming !

Une photo impressionnante, offrant de bons contrastes,
entre la puissance de l'eau et la présence humaine juste à côté.
Belle qualité de lumière et du rendu de l'eau.

This looks soooo dramatic from your high POV.

Fantastic POV, Ana! And a really nice exposure, with a perfect shutter speed to freeze the power and volume of water here.Amazing how small the people look as they watch this awesome display. The B&W really brings out the textures of the water nicely - thanks!
Urs (14082) 2013-04-09 17:26
A very impressive shot of the excess water after a long rainy winter. You really can see and almost feel the masses of water flowing out into the valley. As long as it looks like this, it still is safe, but when you have these masses of water on the road as it often happens in Asia, then you just try not to be there. Fine sharpness and excellent POV. Well done
Fis2 (99766) 2013-04-09 23:53
Excellent water effect.
The black and white increase this emotion.
adramad (46532) 2013-04-10 9:03

an awesome sight recorded superbly by your picture. Your point of view is very effective and comprehensive, there's great depth and the composition fits excellently in the frame juxtaposing in a captivating way the organized structures and space where the tiny figures are standing with the fascinating force and textures of the water. Sharpness, lighting and contrasts have been rendered marvellously, the monochrome offers a timeless feel and enhances the awe. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Ola Ana ,
Un spectacle fantastique , à n'en pas douter . Les petits personnages paraissent bien minuscules . Très belle capture en noir et blanc .

Stunning shot ! No wonder that the event draws crowds ! The height of the water drop is impressive. Good idea to process it in black and white, it makes the scene very impactful.
