Photographer's Note

Often described as a male and a female city respectively, Aleppo and Damascus are siblings who love to hate each other. Aleppo lets Damascus wallow in dreary politics, while it can get down to the serious matters of food, culture and heritage. And cotton, soap and pistachios, of course, which drive its economy. Its Christian population, while smaller than that of Damascus, is nevertheless more dynamic, making the whole city feel more European than oriental. And yet, despite this, and despite Aleppo’s merchant past as a former Silk Road trading post and its proximity to Turkey, it remains a surprisingly conservative city in contrast to its elder sister. Expect to see a lot more veiled women and country folk shopping in town for the day. In Aleppo’s souks and in the Old City in general, you will see very few women with unveiled hair. Aleppo is probably the best-preserved Middle Eastern city you will be able to visit in the 21st century, with enough late-Ottoman architecture and unspoilt souks to give you a taste of pure, undistilled Arabia.

Came to my mind seeing this cute little girl and how she looks to the side, one step behind her mother. Sizin bu tür fotoğraflarınızı daha da çok seviyorum!Tabii mesaj olarak da...Yan cephe ışığıyla,modelin kırmızısıyla,mimari dokusuyla üçgen oluşumunu sağlamışsınız,harika bir şekilde.Özellikle zeminin grafiksel dokusu da bu izdüşüme iyi yönde aparat olmuş.

Yakın coğrafyamızdaki şehirlerden Halep en çok görmek istediğim yerlerin başında geliyor. Bu tür orjinal fotoğrafları görünce gidip gezme isteğim daha da bir kamçılanıyor.

Notu da belli ki siz yazmışsınız. İki şehri de görmedim ama Şam ve Halep'in mukayesesi ancak bu kadar güzel yapılabilir.

The mother dressed in black and the young child in bright red make a compelling pair, an effective bit of photojournalism. I hope that Turkey will remain secular, learning from the lesson of lands southwest of the country, especially since there are people who appear to emulate the backward march civilization in those areas. (I apologize for becoming political in this analysis, but in my last visit to Turkey, I found it disturbing about the direction.

Yerini okumadan bizden diye düşündüm ama baktım sonra Halep'miş.
Mükemmel bakış açısı ve de harika bir kompozsiyon. Kadın'ın siyah çarşafı ile ufaklığın kırmızı giysisi muhteşem bir kontrast yaratıyor.
Açıklamalar da müthiş. Bir de çifte şadırvan, ilk defa görüyorum. Allah bilir ya birini bir padişah yaptırmış, öbürünü de bir başkası ! Senin var benim niye olmasın diye.
