‘Akhaltsikhe - Inside the Rabati Castle’
The three pictures here are all taken inside the Rabati Castle.
That day the weather was very gloomy with at certain times an almost black sky and with a lot of wind. You can see that at the waving flag. However it was warm enough.
My guide books told me very little about the Rabati Castle and the website I listed below, I only found when I was back home.
So when I entered the gate of the complex I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw there. The 7 hectares castle complex houses so many different beautiful buildings and there were so many picturesque corners. The whole complex was recently restored. Then the dark weather bothered me even more.
Information found on http://georgiaabout.com/2012/08/24/about-sights-rabati-castle-a-jewel-in-the-crown/ :
Built in the 13th century, Rabati castle developed under the influence of different cultures over subsequent centuries and this is reflected in its architecture. Within the 7 hectares castle complex there is a church, a mosque, a minaret and a synagogue.
In the 13th-16th centuries the castle and its town of Akhaltsikhe had been the residence of the Jakhely princes.
During the following two centuries it was part of the Ottoman Empire. The Mosque was built in 1752 by Azi Akhmed Pasha.
In the 19th-20th centuries it became part of the Russian Empire.
In the Soviet period the closure of the border with Turkey isolated the town and resulted in the decline of its importance.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the changed geopolitical situation has given a new stimulus to the development of the town.

Thanks for so interesting and informative note, I also like this presentation of Akhaltsikhe. Impressive castle, we can see similar shapes and constructive elements somewhere in the Western Europa, for example.
Good choice of the point of view. TFS!

Mooi werk, bedankt.

this is very interesting place which seems to combine buildings in different state and style. The POV which is slightly higher allows very good perspective and quite wide view. The hills on the background help to frame the composition and the sky colors have been managed very nicely too.
Thanks for sharing

this is a stunning mix of architectural styles, yet they all seem to come together so beautifully. A prefect POV and capture that is full of wonderful detail, clarity and glorious features. Distinctive and captivating imagery. I love it!

You're showing us a great architecture in Georgia. The angle you took this picture is perfect. Along with your very informative note, I enjoy it even more.

Good evening Paul,
Four diff. architecture's styles on this beautiful location: the castle on far left, the golden domes church, the archs arcade on left and the old walls on right.
Marvelous how they all mingle to one picture.
Nice work, intriguing archi.-details and much to explore over there.

Since I didn't make it up the hill to the castle these pictures are very interesting to me. Now I can see what I missed. I am slightly surprised that everything looks so neatly restored. I didn't quite get that impression from below. You have balanced the golden domes very nicely against the tower with the flag and the dark clouds actually look quite good to me. This is an interesting set of three photos, all of them carefully composed.

Ciao e buona serata

Another nice capture from Georgia.
Good pov and good layout.
Good to see that they have kept the Ottoman-Islamic heritage in such a good copndition, which is not the fact in other parts of former Soviet Republic. Interesting notes.
TFS and best regards

Another a good picture from this interesting country! Yes, i can see that you had no luck with the lights on this day but on the other hand you had this interesting place almost for yourself:)I agree with Gert here, the golden domes are nice balanced with the flag. It is also a crisp and clear shot captured from an excellent spot. Thx for a good contribution from a place i will visit as soon as possibly!

Brilliant shot of the Rabati Castle and the hills surrounding it. Very nice perspective and good framing with nice colors and an excellent overall quality .TFS.

Hi again, if I visit this place, I would love it, then I will post photos for sure :). It is an amazing complex and you are right, from what i read nothing indicated to be so. Fantastic composition, so many fine details here. I like these sharp arches on the left and striking dome. Indeed, it looks quite new, specially the part below. I read the discussion with Gert. Even if I can't imagine the whole building from ruins, I usually find ruins more photogenic and interesting. But when it is well made, it is very good thing when the buildings are rebuilt, you know, Warsaw is quite new. I guided lately the couple from Brasil, and they asked me many times - was it really destroyed?? Also the Castel? And Market Square? They just couldn't believe it.
Warm regrads Malgo

You have discovered a great POV to take this image so well. The number of interesting architectural elements and details is great and made the scene so unique and beautiful. Perfectly executed as always. TFS!
Have a nice weekend!

A very impressive daytime view of the Rabati Castle complex, and as stated a multitude of architecture styles over the millenium.
Excellent image showing the details of this historical place and mixture of architecture in fine resolution throughout, and perhaps the overcast sky helped avoid a bright sun blowout.

I ma impressed with the quality of this photo, beautiful view of a fantastic architecture, great castle, compliments

A fabulous set of images of an interesting architecture. More interesting is the way you show them to us. Colors, light and composition - wonderful.
I admit, I made a great mistake that I did not look into your gallery before.
Thanks for those breathtaking compositions.
With best regards,

A breath-taking architectural complex depicting the cross cultures bundled in one place of which i find most interesting and thks to your brief historic narratives. Obviously the eye popping domes draw attention immediately with lot more attractive elements surrounding the imposing castle and beautifully illustrated. Detail and colour are simply glorious, although the weather was not your side but the clarity achieved here is great. I find green and speck of red are good colour breaker boosting the visual effect to almost diffuse environment. This is very thoughtful upload and words. Congrats and tfs
adramad (32927) 2014-01-27 10:58
Amazing architectural complex, the beauty and originality of monuments, large building that the mosque with large golden dome, the pavilion with arches such as light is a beauty, and the castle on the rock, stands defiant in its medieval beauty, I'm being very surprised by this fascinating reportage of the images, these upload from Georgia, who are finding me a country completely unknown to me. TFS.
Very good management of both the brightness and the sharpness.
The color is great, very well balanced.
Very good job. I love
I wish you a happy week.
Best wishes ..

Belle composition. Note intéressante. Salutations.
ourania (21500) 2014-01-28 14:13
a very interesting setting, a great variety of architectural styles that you managed to arrange in your tight frame superbly. The perspectives create a nice rhythm and your composition is well balanced. We have the chance to study the diverse structures and their interaction, the sense of scale provided by the perspective, the people and the flag is so intriguing. I like very much the workshop pictures and especially the one with the bride, a rewarding view and familiar scene (from our castle:) Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,
mkamionka (28039) 2014-01-29 3:21
beautiful presentation which seems to include so many various structures made in different styles. It must be a great feeling as well to discover places so little known among western tourists. It seems indeed to be well taken care about now. The only thing which could be a bit better here is the weather, a bit bore sunshine could make it even more impressive.
jcpix (8380) 2014-01-31 17:15
Quite a history here, and a well preserved outcome which has sure made for a beautiful space and impressive architecture. The golden domes stand proud amongst the rest of the scene, but do not overpower the splendor of this site. Perhaps not the most accommodating weather, but there's nothing lost in the detail and natural colors. There's a lot to take in from this composition, you've packed an abundance of intrigue into one frame. As you mentioned with the breeze, the fluttering flag creates that touch of motion and additional atmosphere...rather literally I might add! :) Enjoy the weekend.
SWEETFREEDOM (20590) 2014-02-01 23:58
interesting interior of the castle, i like the Golden dome, the arches on the left and the fortess in bg.
kwekwekan (866) 2014-02-04 18:49
You have made up for the gloomy weather with a great POV and a finely composed image. The viewer gets two beautiful pieces of architecture to admire, which you have balanced off very well together by respecting the rule of thirds and by placing them in opposing corners. TFS
