I dreamt in the night about visions of the first rays of the sun striking the Taj Mahal, seen from the vantage point from the other bank of River Yamuna. I was raring to go, come morning!!
Woke up in the morning with the visions of my dreams still swimming in my head & had taken a car from the Hotel at 6 in the morning. As I stepped out, I just couldn’t see a thing. Everywhere it was white, as if a thick curtain has fallen from the heavens....thick fog. I cursed! The visibility in the fog was a mere 6 feet, and my aspirations to go to the other side of Yamuna & catch a glimpse of sunrise on the Taj Mahal from the other bank was fast melting. Braving the white wall like fog, I did reach the destination, but with visibility barely improving, the hope of getting the vision of the famed Taj Mahal & the effect the first rays of the sun on it was rapidly fading into the thick blanket of fog.
So I decided to wait...entered into the small shack of a tea shop & requested for some tea. The faint light was breaking through the fog....20 minutes to go for sunrise. It was chilly, not cold, & inside the shack, locals were enjoying their glass of tea (chai) around the fire. I decided to take my first shots of the day here. I was carrying a tripod, but there was no place to keep it. So I jacked up the ISO to 1600 & holding the tripod in one hand like a monopod ...took a deep breath, I clicked....

Even though I'm having a coffee right now I enjoy this tea scene, the flame is well rendered, we see also well the visages thanks to its light and from the noise level you know you've been right to choose a Canon :-)
Have a nice week end JY

very nice picture indeed. There is real mood there on yhe photograph. Very nicely composed as well. Have You tried to crop lhs up to the knee of the central person, top part ( I know You wanted that shadow)but I would still have chopped the top part just above the head of the rhs person. In this case the resoult would be the picture that gives more intimacy. Stil- even as it is now it is very nice indeed! TFS!

I do not like at all: I mean the drink.
For the photo it is a totally over story, I like a lot. I already tried many time to only use the lightning coming from the wood fire. It is not easy, but when successful, it provides very good photo like there.
My only suggestion, and only a suggestion, is perhaps to try to play on the white balance to lower the orange tones. Matter of taste and you keep the final choice.
pierrefonds (67493) 2010-05-08 6:31
You have captured well the wondering expressionof the men around the fire. The point of view is showing the details and colors of their feature and clothings. The subject is well framed. A good managemnt of the light. Have a nice day.

Hello Mr. B,
How did you get the two men to be so still during the duration of the 1-second? Your subjects cooperated beautifully, helping you to produce one of the most dramatic images I've seen, even for your surpassing gallery.
Have a good Sunday, (it is midnight here, and we just started Sunday).

subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2010-05-09 17:49
nice daily life shot. Well framed. Like the fire and those men having a cup of tea, utilising the heat of it. Nicely captured with fine light. Your upper POV is nice to show every details. Great depth also. Shadows are created here a mystic atmosphere. Very well composed shot. Tfs.

danos (99160) 2010-05-10 4:50
very nice the snapshot in this small shack of a tea shop with the men to look rather brainstorming at your lens.I like this superb atmospheric environment as the good management of the lighting conditions with the shades to be superb.Well done.
josepmarin (58359) 2010-05-10 5:11
This interior capture is very well executed, the management of the exposure time is very good, and you have obtained a really impeccable image of these two men taking a cup of tea, no movement is obvious in them, seems that they are posing for you.
The shades created by the fire are gorgeous.
A splendid photo, my friend.
lucasgalodoido (22673) 2010-05-10 6:49
very interesting picture here of this event, and the mans expression and fire light are wonderful. Great job, my friend.
Longroute (19396) 2010-05-10 7:47
...And you clicked well!
It's an ashtoning clear photo for 1600 ISO and no tripod, something which I surely cannot do with my camera. But above all is a very interesting and fine photo. These two men really look surprised and somehow diffident at seeing your camera!
Did you ask their permission? I would not have had the courage to take my camera out there... but maybe for you it's simpler because you know the language and the customs.
I's a very expressive photo, so well composed even if in a small environment with little room, and I do like the particular hue that the hour and fog gave you. So evocative!
An excellent work.
marietom (34609) 2010-05-10 9:39

Odlican trenuta ...
Dobrim uvodnim tekstom i lepom fotografijom prikazali ste nam trenutak iz zivota ovih ljudi koji uz caj pricaju price i prenose iskustva.
Njihovi pogledi se pitaju sta vi to radite, cestitam na dobrom radu.
Sve najbolje, Paja.
Excellent current ...
Good introductory text and beautiful photography show you have a moment of life of these people who tell stories with tea and transmit experience.
Their views have been wondering what you are doing, congratulations on the good work.
All the best, Paja.
pablominto (53746) 2010-05-10 23:27
The campfire adds an interesting light to the scene, making the guys look almost scary with the reflection in the eyes..!
A stunning scene not often seen in photographs, an unusual tea shop for sure...
The monochromatic light adds a particular feeling to the the situation..!
samratrayc (438) 2010-05-11 9:02
U took a deep breath, kept still and clicked ... and uu turned us still n breathless with this shot. This photo has a unique mood and tone like no other. I think the wood fire does the trick.
But i must also say that apart from the technical mastery, getting ur subjects to stay still for a full 1 sec is an act of great cooperation from them.
I loved this shot
jafadabret (56501) 2010-05-11 10:39
On peut facilement monter les iso sans que la qualité de la photo en souffre, c'est un des avantages des bons appareils actuels. Belle photo qui traduit bien l'ambiance du thé matinal !
korbee (6619) 2010-05-11 12:52
Magnificent and time less atmosphere Ang.this could be in the 1600s as well, your control of the litlle bit of light in the tent(?)is exelent.
holmertz (54235) 2010-05-13 1:57
A well written note giving a good background to this strange and very different photo. The effect of the sparse light and the high ISO have given this picture a timeless look, like from an etching from colonial days long ago. The only modern items I can see are the glasses.
Thanks for sharing,
lacroux (4562) 2010-05-13 8:29
Your picture comes into its own with your story, after so many misfortunes it is not that bad, and then it warmed our heart ...
Of course, this is not the sunrise over the Taj Mahal, but it will be for next time!
Kielia (24077) 2010-05-13 10:16
I am already now looking forward to you next post here that is continuing this story! You have captured a fantastic atmosphere, the expressions on the faces of the two men are fascinating. As already mentioned by Gerrit, the image also reminds of me Rembrandt. My compliments!
rigoletto (34279) 2010-05-13 11:08
a great meditation on light, shadow and textures. i love the baroque feeling and the strange, timeless atmosphere. i would avoid the left part and go for a vertical compo, though, only keeping the two men.
ManuMay (36261) 2010-05-13 22:16
Wonderful double portrait and amazing colour, composition and light management are really great, a very good work and a very elegant frame to finish,,,a great work Angshu!!
mkamionka (37787) 2010-05-14 5:08
great catch. The man have so much style and so serious faces.
The fire makes an atmosphere of mystery.
Very well done,
Waylim (25502) 2010-05-14 15:45
Mother nature has its way, you can't really time it. We all have our fair share of good and bad weather, We curse, we thanks for the good and the bad weather we had, but there is nothing we can do about it.
This a good shot of the local daily life, and for us we have seen plenty of the Taj, so this is a good alternative, and for you, I'm sure you have seen it in different lights. Thanks for this one.
abmdsudi (55116) 2010-05-15 7:16
i like the ambient and expression on the faces and the shadow in the bg. the eyes of the man on the right looked really sharp. u captured great shot. tfs
siolaw (38292) 2010-05-19 4:36
The only sight of a fire makes me sweat profusely! So hot here right now! Interesting capture of the typical scene with interrogative expressions.
I may have croppes some on the left side...
LOOOK13 (19046) 2010-05-19 15:32
Very large Article an enormous cheer.
InasiaJones (31566) 2010-07-13 0:04
How are you my friend!
You've converted yourself to square format?!
What an incredible atmosphere you caught yourself here! Wow! This is marked with spirituality all over... More than that, it's mysticism.
The face of the man in the foreground is particularly remarkable; its gaze is very spooky and it's piercing through the lens.
Perfect set-up to tell ghost stories!
abulafia (4900) 2010-07-31 20:59
Nice lighting effect from the bonfire, I wonder how that would appear in a highcontrast BW version.
Disabled_A (0) 2010-08-01 10:46
this scene is very expressive, and in a way it reminds me a scene from a movie. I like the warmth of this scene, the warmth of the fire and the colours. Dark shadows which are in contrast with the brightly lit parts of the clothes produce a very good sense of depth.
Very interesting shot, indeed! Very good choice POV :)
regarding the tripod/monopod.. of course it does help a lot, but how often it's only the moment/mood that matters - not the technical quality!
tcht (7565) 2010-09-14 3:35
hi again, this one really caught me eye ! stunning atmosphere, seems like taken out of a movie or should i say, this brings me back in time...could imagine that this was a scene from a few hundred years ago. and of course, the eyes of the man on the right really made the shot. wonderful!
Suppiluliuma (3913) 2010-09-14 4:29
If the guy with a cigarette in hand were not there, it would look like a medieval scene, the dark and yellow atmosphere reminiscent of Rembrandt paintings.
I would suggest cropping slightly from the top.
Striking shot, TFS.
kordinator (20523) 2010-10-01 0:50
