I had taken a car from the Hotel at 6 in the morning. The visibility in the fog was a mere 6 feet, and I was harboring aspirations to go to the other side of Yamuna & catch a glimpse of sunrise on the Taj Mahal from the other bank. Braving the white wall like fog, I did reach the destination, but with visibility barely improving, the hope of getting the vision of the famed Taj Mahal & the effect the first rays of the sun on it was rapidly fading into the thick blanket of fog.
With optimism in my heart, I approached the river bank to see a faint outline of the Taj on the other bank. Then slowly a little more....I was not the only one with a camera though, there were at least couple of other guys who I could see had stationed themselves on the sand banks armed with large tripods. The fog played truant, revealing the silhouetted domes & minarets of Taj & then in the next moment shrouding the scene again...I hung around for about half an hour taking pictures almost by the minute. Then the fog became dense again & I started my retreat. This was one of the moments when a silhouetted part of the Taj, and the mosque on the right which seemed to have won a battle against the fog...at least for that very moment.
My last post for some time, as tomorrow I move to Mumbai (Bombay) in my new work assignment. Will see you all in TE after I manage to settle down a bit. Till then take care.

avene (12675) 2009-03-21 8:50
your persistence paid off, the shot is great :) I like a lot the pale purple and pink tones, and mirror-perfect reflection reminds me of kaleidoscopes, something I enjoyed a lot as a kid. and I like that you have included the mosque on the right, it does seem as if it fades away in the fog, and I find it adds to the dream-like quality of the moment. excellent work, my compliments.
pastadog (13111) 2009-03-21 8:51
Pretty shot, Angshu, taking advantage of the conditions... I esp. like the inclusion of the mosque on the side, somehow echoing the Taj. Superb, congratulations, Daniel
albertz (2468) 2009-03-21 8:54
This is totally different context from the reflection pool and manicured lawns as usually seen shot of the Taj. Nice one.. very nice.
besnard (55359) 2009-03-21 8:56
aristo (3214) 2009-03-21 9:14
pauloog (11747) 2009-03-21 9:22
The Taj Mahal has been photographed a zillion times but this view stands out with its faded colours and poetic impression. Your patience was well rewarded!
baba_flies (8829) 2009-03-21 9:23
Hello Angshuman! Fog has such wonderful qualities, it gives the Taj Mahal such a lightness, it almost floats. Your efforts payed you out with this wonderful shot, it gives so much back. I always like these little adventures, they make you smile, sometimes shake your head but mostly it is my girls in the train when I ride to work and I guess they think rather her than us ;))) If they only knew what they miss ... Great work indeed! Best regards, Barbara.
poocha (606) 2009-03-21 9:38
sometime the condition give a better
you got a unique shot that interesting and different
the fog give a mystic look and give the special color of sunlight touching the top of the Taj for the point of view
minimal ,dull colors ,not sharpness but attractive:)
Kielia (24073) 2009-03-21 9:40

Didi (59196) 2009-03-21 11:52
The Taj is coming from nowhere thru the fog.
It's a very nice picture in spite of the hard conditions of lights.
feather (51130) 2009-03-21 12:39
I remember your previous post from here with the guy watching the fog on the Taj. The fog receded a bit more on this one, allowing you to produce a very different shot. I love how you were also able to get some reflection in shot.
Good luck with your move!
Bartleby (13552) 2009-03-21 13:08
What a way to take a leave Angshu! T'was well worth every minute of the wait and the struggle with the fog. Not much to say apart from fantastic here! Congratulations!
MarianneS (15338) 2009-03-21 13:26
You selected a beautiful photo to say goodbye.
Fortunately, it is not definitive.
Your composition is well balanced with a good use of the fog to give a very mysterious impression.
I wish you all the best with your new job.
vinicio (23423) 2009-03-21 15:04
Magic image Angshu, compliments, you capture a beautiful moment in a a beautiful image, well done.
batalay (37205) 2009-03-21 16:56
Hello Mr. B,
An astonishingly beautiful view of the iconic architectural edifice, a gift for the ages. The personal note is engaging, as always. I think that like most gifted photographers, you intuitively pause at sites where other seemingly serious photographers have set up their gear, at places that might be new discoveries. This is too much of a classic to be a new discovery, but the ungodly hour, 6:00 am, attests to your serious approach.
Warm regards, and have a good Sunday.
npecanhuk (70894) 2009-03-21 18:05
This one is simply fantastic! With all that fog and the reflection... wow man... what an attractive picture! A dream one, that's for sure! The best moment for getting it and very good photo qualities!
TFS - Congratulations!
radiohead (359) 2009-03-21 20:57
You have managed to capture a beautiful and very atmospheric image of the Taj despite working in difficult conditions. I love the beautiful soft tones and reflection of the Taj also.
Kind regards, Michele
pablominto (53746) 2009-03-22 0:08
Two elements are making this different: The fog and the reflection!
The composition is skillfully done and the moment seems just the right to achieve this special effect...
The incoming light from upper left adds an interesting silhouette effect!
dkeus31 (27735) 2009-03-22 3:18
the fog gives here a great ambiance to the picture and a different view of this well known building
Budapestman (82620) 2009-03-22 8:23
Fabled mood with beautiful composition and details. The buildings being wrapped up in the fog give wonderful mood to the photo. The reflection is spectacular likewise. Great photo. Have a nice Sunday!

Oh very nice with that morning light!!!
Good luck with settling down! You do it one month too early. I'll be in Delhi again on the 20th of April ;-). Though I won't take my reflex camera with me, since afterwards I'm continuing to Myanmar.

The fog creates such a mysterious mood and a great atmosphere with the reflections. This picture is really a masterpiece. Well done.
aadilj (18102) 2009-03-24 4:26
Hi Angshuman, this is splendid...like a canvass out of Arabian Nights. The Taj seems to be melting into the fog. You have done a splendid job my freind
danos (91228) 2009-03-24 8:07
a dreamy shot of Taj Mahal that is hidden in the morning fog. Thanks for your wake up so early in the morning,in order to see this magic scene.Informative as ever your note.Bravo.

zeca (19762) 2009-03-24 22:04
Beautiful view of the Taj Mahal rising from the fog and creating a mystic atmsphére. The reflections makes it even more iteresting. Its a great shot, Angshu!
Cretense (68695) 2009-03-25 3:11
One of the most beautiful, original and atmospheric photos of this famous and so many times photographed monument! Not easy to take an original photo of the Taj Mahal, but you did it perfectly! Excellent framing and composition, amazing light managment, incredible reflection, the romantic atmosphere fits perfectly the Taj, that 3-D "poem" of love! Congratulations!
papagolf21 (91602) 2009-03-25 14:59
Bonsoir, mon ami Angshu,
Le charme opère toujours autant avec tes vues magnifiques. Comment ne pas se laisser emporter dans cette image poétique.
Une grande photographie.
burGu (4840) 2009-03-25 15:06
It is one of the most mysterious photos of Taj Mahal, I've ever seen... You use advantage of early morning and the misty view at its best. Silhouette of the great architecture stands so amazing behind the mist and dreamy colors.
Bruno40 (6658) 2009-03-26 7:00
the softness of the photo actually enhances the mood... a real gem, very well captured.
gokanlam (6605) 2009-03-26 10:48
very mysterious scene from Taj Mahal.. you had used the moment well enough to create misty and dreamy atmosphere with the reflections..
everlasting (14698) 2009-03-26 13:36
What a Christmas present Angshu, I think I prefer the earlier upload being more abstract but this is a beauty in its own right. The emerging Taj and the retracting fog allows the reflections.
I wish you all the best with you move to Mumbai and success in your new position. Hope to see you around soon.
siolaw (38292) 2009-03-27 0:41
I finally managed to get back to an internet connexion...!
Good that you waited till the Taj won its battle against the fog! It adds to the mystical mood of the view... Nice soft colors and pleasant reflexions...
I often go to Mumbai, so now maybe we'll have an opportunity to meet! ;D
eversmile (11636) 2009-03-27 2:22
SUPERB!!!! I appreciate very much this shot, taken from the other side of the Yamuna river, with its complicated light. You've done a great work with it and the fog. The poetic mood is at its highest, with the pastel hues and the reflections. A fairy tale vision, absolutely appropriate for the magnificent Taj. The composition is excellent: the monument seems to float in the air, the apparition of the domes seems magical and mysterious. Pure beauty! Congratulations!!!!
axiotea (21649) 2009-03-27 4:04
At the end, you were lucky with the light going through the fog, allowing to see a part of the Taj and Mosque in a special atmosphere.
I wish you good luck in Mumbai
sagar (2410) 2009-03-27 13:26
Mystique Taj!!! A 'royal' view!! Very very dreamy!!
ChrisJ (105681) 2009-03-27 17:28
A superb view of the Taj with wonderful symmetrical reflections. The fog adds a nice mood & mysterious atmosphere. The secondary building at right is rarely included in most images I've seen, so kudos for that. Tfs!
bakes888 (18499) 2009-03-29 1:26
Hi Angshu. Your perseverance has paid dividends for you in this shot, stunning. Beautiful atmosphere and colours. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.
PS Hope your move goes/has gone smoothly.
jimkilgallon (0) 2009-03-29 1:40
Moody but beautiful, title says it all Angshu.
Love it ,regards
pierrefonds (61152) 2009-03-30 4:28
The reflextions of the Taj Mahal in the water are assets to the composition. The fog is giving a good contrast to the composition between the image in the water and the one above the fog. The subject is nicely framed. Well done, have a nice day.
Graal (100582) 2009-03-30 11:41
great view at the famous Taj Mahal. Amazing misty atmosphere. Well composed image. I like reflections also. Well photojob.
josepmarin (58047) 2009-03-30 12:09
this is one of the best photos that I have seen of Taj Majal. The dream and mysterious ambience that the fog creates on this marvel of the humanity has a big graphic strength and an aesthetic formidable result in the image.
A great composition, my friend. Congratulations!
jusninasirun (17162) 2009-03-30 21:03
Beautiful dreamy view of The Taj. The mist in the middle let us peep at the shape of this well photographed architecture. Excellent presentation and TFS.
jafadabret (56501) 2009-03-30 23:46
Le photographe doit être optimiste pour aller chercher des images comme celle-ci alors que la météo n'est pas franchement bonne. J'aime l'effet de la brume qui sépare le monument de son reflet.
Du très beau travail !
emjleclercq (15780) 2009-03-31 13:01
A very exciting view of the Taj emerging form thhe fog, with additional reflections, and a very slight touch of pink in the sky. Quite a romantic atmosphere (which befits well to a mausoleum).
All the best,
PS: good luck with your move.
jhm (145306) 2009-04-01 3:01
Generally a spooky image but this is real, when them take this type pictures in the fog.
Very well realisation with the Taj Mahal.
Sharpness and clarity are superb, also it subject!
Very well done, TFS.
anto95 (1840) 2009-04-01 5:13
That's one of the pictures I prefer. The POV and the format are very well chosen.
rajhema (1873) 2009-04-01 10:03
Another marvelous portrait of this masterpiece angshuman. you had perfectly conveyed your pain to take this picture. and narration is lively and the picture came out awesome. it can talk loads of story. the mood is well conveyed and the silhoutte is spectacular. It goes into my favourite.
pankajbajpai (376) 2009-04-02 8:53
nice capture of the taj, i liked the way you have composed the shot and the reflections here, i visited your gallery and must say that your work specially on ORCHHA is simply awesome,
keep on the good work,
tfs & regards
dip (23884) 2009-04-03 8:46
great capture of the foggy scene,
good point of view and light management,
plimrn (21344) 2009-04-03 22:31
The uniqueness of this magical, mystical view through the fog, especially when complimented by the reflection, is better than a more standard sunny day approach.
Hope all goes well with your move; I look forward to your return.
yquem46 (38750) 2009-04-04 5:28
Quite an unusual view, far away from the clichés of Taj !!
the light in the fog affords a quite moody masterwork
well done Angshu
InasiaJones (31562) 2009-04-06 8:11
So at the moment I'm writting you this comment, you might already have emptied your boxes and all the dishes are in the shelves and your computer is wired... :-P)
Hope you'll find yourself at home anytime soon in Mumbai. But you are an eternal "mover", so you will adapt in no time. Just a quick word my friend to let you know that Kolkata, your beloved city, was a fascinating one for my western eyes... I just had a crush for this bustling city, full of energy, great people and... photo ops. Next time I go in India, you can be sure I'll spend at least 10 days up there (if only my lungs can hold up that long...).
Now, concerning your stunning shot, my friend, we had the same intention with this foggy Yamuna, but with totally different results. I just love what you did with your vision and creativity to get the best out of this mysterious white blanket that last for weeks...
There's only so much photos you can do in the fog, and after a couple of days, I was desperate. But I have to recognize that a couple of them through a portfolio is certainly catchy. On my version, the fog was so thick that you can only see the contour of the Taj, without any nice details like in your shot. Plus you have a nice reflection, doubling the beauty of your scene.
Great work Angshu!
Hope to see you again!
Atousa (7131) 2009-04-09 7:28
Another great shot of the mysterious Taj ..I wonder what is about it that it looks magnificent n beautiful no matter its rising, hidden in mist, visible, shining,...!? atmospheric n successful!
Best wishes, A

Angshuman, Your picture really symbolizes the mystic of the Taj, it's a very good shot, capturing the Taj in the morning mist with the reflection in the Jamuna. A really outstanding picture
scalerman (26900) 2009-06-19 21:54
A: stunning effort - it is this vein of imagery that TE really thrives on. Tripod? Maybe a bit shy on the sharpness end... best, c

Great shot indeed, dramatic mist !
Greetings from Lyon
YukonMarty (39) 2009-10-19 17:59
I love it! So different from the 'Taj" shots we regularly see. A very surreal feel to the scene. Love your title also.
HimalAnda (10323) 2009-10-26 11:44
You managed to catch this amazing atmosphere in this famous place.
The light is beautiful, especially behind the Taj Mahal, and I like the reflection in the water.
A great shot !
