MEXICO CITY - The discovery of a tomb filled with decapitated bodies suggests that Mexico's 2,000-year-old "Pyramid of the Moon" may have been the site of horrifically gory sacrifices, archaeologists said Thursday.

The tomb at Teotihuacan, the first major city built in the Americas, whose origins are one of history's great mysteries, also held the bound carcasses of eagles, dogs and other animals.

"It is hard to believe that the ritual consisted of clean, symbolic performances — it is most likely that the ceremony created a horrible scene of bloodshed with sacrificed people and animals," said Saburo Sugiyama, one of the scientists leading the ongoing dig. "Whether the victims and animals were killed at the site or a nearby place, this foundation ritual must have been one of the most terrifying acts recorded archaeologically in Mesoamerica."

Hola Enrique.

Saludos, Yvonne

Hi friend Enrique

hey now that's cool ... you know what's trippy about this shot?? the foreground (left) are rocks embedded in the walls, but on the right the small people look like the same. it's a little difficult to distinguish them and that's quite interesting.

it creates a cool texture to the photo. i also like the height of the pyramid and the way the path (and people) lead our attention right up to the top.

really nice shot enrique ... those textures are mind boggling!

Hola Enrique,

Hello Enrique,
very nicely composed shot to the pyramid. The perspective is very good, the colors are well saturated. I like a lot the texture of the different coloured rocks in the fg. Compliments and have a nice WE, my friend!

Hi Enrique,
Nice shot. What strikes me aboutthat region of Mexico is that it is so desertic. There use to be a big lake, and Tenochtitlan could only be reached by crossing causways. There were big tropical forests. Now it is obvious, as seen in this shot, that those things are long gone. What a shame...
Anyways I researched the Aztecs, and more precisely the end of there Empire for a year and the defeat to Cortes in 1521, so these shots of Mexico are always fun to see. It could maybe use a little sharpen, but it is good nonetheless. Too bad the Spanish did not leave more buildings standing...
Nice shot

Best Wishes
Louis

Olá Enrique!
This is my favourite one from this series. People seem so small when compared with the huge building.
I've allways imagined this pyramids as being built with 'monotone' rocks, it was a surprise to watch that they were made of stones with several different colors.
I noticed a detail, the small dots between the stones in the wall in first plan: are they small stones embedded in the 'concrete'!?

Um abraço,
Sérgio

Enrique
Very nice view of this famous place

Hi Enrique,

a beautiful postcard view on this pyramid. This is a place I have dreamt of visiting because I was once fascinated with von Danicken's books..although now Ive grown up, but Teotihuacan remains in my mind as a mystical place.

Hi enrique,
Nice capture of this pyramid with the blured mountain on the background.
Nice perspective colours and light.
Regards
Teresa

Hi Enrique
great place, and beautifull picture. The frame is nice. The sharpness is excellente. great light.
Well done
Bertrand

Hi Enrique
Visited this place 3 years ago. I thought it was awesome, both the sun and the moon pyramids. The scene here is great, and the perspective you have chosed is good. The people in the shot add a good sense of scale too. TFS
Aubrey

This is a new thing for me, and a mystical too. Never knew such aplace existed. Life in the shot and how I move with others to climb the stairs is ajoy to watch.
Great POV and an outstanding shot.
Rajeev
