Photographer’s Note
While we were in Merida, Carlos, a local friend, took us on a tour of some of the less-trevelled sites of the city. Amongst other places, we visited a former hacienda, now converted into an educational centre where classes and workshops are held.
In the courtyart outside, for the hundredth time since arriving in the city, the magical light of Merida caught my attention. These plastic banners flew everywhere around a small shrine devoted to the Virgin Mary. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that the display was related to Christmas (it was December 29th, but the Christmas season is pretty extended in Mexico and was by no means over).
If there were no other reason to go back to Merida -- and believe me there are lots of them, and I will go back -- then the sunlight alone would be reason enough.

Beautiful lighting and colors. It looks almost surreal. Very interesting.

A windy, bright, breezy, warm view of a distant shore. It is a snapshot that captures a longing for a simpler time.

Hi Lee. Good composition putting well in evidence the contrast of "mexican colours" under the sun. Good choice of a square format, well exposed and interesting play with the shadows on the facade.

I understand what you mean by the magical light, which you somehow captured by showing the shadows. I wish I could see what you cropped away and if there was some way to get rid of the planter in the lower right corner... Other than that: a feast for the eye!

Glorious compo here, Lee: it really works. Ther's something so exultantly Mexican about this - not the murderous, treacherous Mexico of the border but the traditional, colonial, stately, slow moving side.

Hello Lee, I know this one dates back, and you already have a new picture uploaded, but I was so attracted by this one. The light is so beautiful and soft, and comes out beautifully on the wall. But I especially like the play of the shadows, they bryng a mystic atmosphere in it, and the shrine helps in tyhat too. I love this one, Lee. I believe you when you say the light is magical in Merida. I wonder, is it situated on the coast? There are places in the Netherlands, when (almost) surrounded by water, the light is extraordinary.
