Photographer’s Note
New Year's celebration at one of the most famous small towns in the highlands of Chiapas. San Juan Chamula is inhabited by Chamula indians, members of the Mayan family. The town lords, known as Mayordomos, gather at the main plaza to discuss the issues at hand. Photography is strongly discouraged, forcing photographers to struggle for an image.
