Photographer’s Note

As I've already mentioned in previous photos, Mexico is the country for deserts and giant cactuses.
This is not a cactus, but a Joshua tree, typical from desert areas. I love the way it grows with lots of branches in every directions. In between the branches, in the centre, you can see the 3 Virgenes volcano (I think...).

The desert here is just beautiful. Besides the incredible vegetation the most striking thing here is the profound and utter silence.
Although the environment is extremely harsh here, and you wonder how anything can grow and thrive in those conditions, the desert is teeming with life.

This was taken, very early in the morning, while I was driving from San Ignacio to Santa Rosalia. I parked the car on the side of the road and went for a 1 hour walk into the desert, heading towards the volcano having care to keep track of a few reference points. As I said before, it is very, very easy to get lost here! Which I did...but not this time.
