It had been shortly before 8:00 AM when Valentin, my driver, and I departed Merida, following the Avenue of the Itzaes south. We had visited the four Puuc sites of Labná, Xlapak, Sayil, and Kabah. It was now 1:00 PM, and I was hungry. I suggested to Valentin that, on the return journey to Merida, he stop at a hacienda of his choice and we could enjoy lunch. (I also enjoy an ice-cold cerveza but I was not driving.) An hour later, he pulled in to the roadway leading to the Hacienda Ochil, just west of Abalá. The restaurant is straight ahead.
