The House of the Columns dates from 1075 CE. Also known as the Great Palace (and Structure #21), it is the largest residential complex in Tulum, and located just to the west of the Central Precinct. It rests on a platform with an L-shaped ground plan. The west wing was a later addition. The main facade, south-facing (this photo), features four columns, while an additional set of columns once supported the roof. Its inner room boasts a shrine whose rear wall projects out from the north facade. The building's west wing has its own staircase and entrance portico.
