Continuing to walk toward the south of Tulum and up the slope from the cove, I reached the northeast corner of a substantial residential complex - Structure 22. It is also referred to as the House of the Halach Uinic, a term used by the Maya to refer to kings. It is a surprisingly high complex, evident when comparing with the pillars still standing. Possibly there were once staircases on all four sides, as well, including the west leading out onto the main street, but only the north and south can boast of their presence today. Also, at one time, the House was covered by a large flat roof that has disappeared.
