It is at about the halfway point that the performers experience the greatest pull of centrifugal forces as they sail around the axis of the pole. They do not need to look in order to see where they are precisely because their bodies tell them. It is also my understanding that, after several performances, the brain adjusts to the spinning and they no longer experience headaches. In fact, "they fly through the air with the greatest of ease, those daring young men on their flying .....".
