There are two prisoner panels located towards the western end of the two sections comprising Ball Court #2 (Structure D-13) of the D Group. Whether these present an actual scene that the sculptor witnessed or whether the intent was to serve as a warning or to create an intimidating atmosphere - possibly all of the above - is not clear to me. There is no doubt, however, that as population levels rose dramatically in Mundo Maya, food became scarcer, contention increased between and among the city-states. Coba was very attractive as its location featured access to considerable supplies of water. Violence among and sacrifice of humans increased. This is the panel on the south section of the ball court.
