The staircase, and the structure on top, are located immediately to the south of Ball Court #1 in the Coba Group. They would have afforded an excellent view of any and all activities on the court. What constituted the ball game varied from Mayan centre to centre. By this, I mean the rules, the number of players, attire, etc. Basically, it was a ritual that symbolized the struggle between astral forces. To an extent, it was also related to fertility, and at times human sacrifice formed a part. Additionally, and probably above all, it was entertainment.
