Yal-Ku is a small ecological park and lagoon just two kilometres north of Akumal, on the Mayan Riviera. My driver thoughtfully brought me here, on the way home from Tulum and Muyil, convinced I would appreciate the sculpture that populates the grounds. He was correct.
I shall upload nine photographs of this art, but there are many more I could have chosen. I do hope they are appropriately representative. Alas, I have been unable to identify the artist(s) responsible, and indeed there are no titles attached to the works. So I hope you will bear with me in what I have to say.
This work is on a small traffic island in the centre of the close outside the park. My impression is that it is a Maya matron standing, with much dignity, and guarding the lagoon.
