Day 51: San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico

Getting to San Cristóbal de las Casas was like coming to paradise after the unbearable humidity and temperature on the coast. San Cristóbal was another story completely. Located about 2100 meters above the sea level climate was perfect for me. In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful colonial cities – brightly painted and well organised.

The city is known for the Zapatista movement that held the city for a short while in 1994. People in the city seem to be a very divided about the whole movement – some hate Zapatistas, some love them. I was hoping to see a glimpse of Subcomandante Marcos but I had to settle for those hundreds of t-shirt images and man-made dolls of him instead.

El llegar a San Cristóbal de las Casas era como venir al paraíso después de la humedad unbearable y temperatura en la costa. El San Cristóbal era muy diferente. Fue localizado cerca de 2100 metros sobre el clima del nivel del mar perfecto para mí. En mi opinión es una de las ciudades coloniales más hermosas - pintadas brillantemente y organizadas bien

La ciudad se conoce para el movimiento de Zapatista que atacó la ciudad por un tiempo corto en 1994. La gente en la ciudad se parece ser muy dividido - alguna gente la odia, alguna gente la ama. Esperaba ver Subcomandante Marcos pero no sucedió. En lugar vi centenares de imágenes en camisetas, y muñecas.
