My Oh Maya Part 14

I had already moved on from Chiapas with yesterday's post from the Yucatán. But today I'm returning to San Cristóbal because I want to remind everyone of the terrible floods and landslides in Chiapas and Tabasco.

One million people are homeless in Tabasco. Villahermosa is under water, as is about 80% of the entire state. The event is being compared to Hurricane Katrina's devastation of New Orleans.
In Chiapas, some are describing a "mini-tsunami" from the Grijalva river. The wave wiped out the hamlet of San Juan Grijalva.

May this portrait of this young girl -- another one of the many kids who go to the city to sell pulseras to tourists -- be a reminder of the ordeal that her people are experiencing right now.

Here are a few organizations that are sending relief to the area -- in case you are moved to help out.

Hello Hugh...a well chosen platform to initiate awareness..am sure there will be commendable response.

As for the potrait..i rightly depicts the grief-stricken victims. It shows in the eyes Hugh and youve captured it well..

Cheers.

Great cause.
Wonderful photo, Hugh.

To understanding the TE - is to understand utopia.
Why this photo is so underrated...?
Beats me...

The whole world of misery is quite visible in those eyes...
A work painted by the heart and a sensitive mind

Something cracked inside me...

Thanks, Hugh.

PS: I'll send the donation.

A catastrophe, and for a country that is obviously has less than the one struck with Katrina a few years ago... I also work for a humanitarian org. that sends relief...
Just looking at her face is testament to the spirit of the place, the genius loci, the warmth and beauty that they possess, Hugh... she is so beautiful, her eyes mingled with a hint of sadness, depth, yearning. Excellent portrait and a very thoughtful idea to put the help lines in your note.
Take care

Hi Hugh...

Don't quite know how to say what I think and feel, me and my husband are sponsors of two little girls in Bolivia... thank you for this strong message...

Superb portrait, gives me the same feeling I has when I received the first pic of my girls. Beautiful how you caught this pain and this dignity...

Very best regards
Michèle
