Traditional Mexican Stove Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a traditional Mexican stove (estufa) made of clay, mud and plaster. It's located in an open shed attached to my neighbor's house. She is a very old, gracious lady who I am sure cooked many wonderful, nutritious meals on this stove but who now has a modern gas range in the house proper. Unfortunately, when she passes on, this lot will be sold, the house will be razed and a fancy modern home will be built with all traces of the old way of life obliterated.
(The other day when I looked, someone had thrown some posts into the shed smashing part of the stove. Good thing I got this photo when I did.)

It was indeed a good thing You´ve got this picture, rootes sooner or later always fade away. Nice photo and story of this Mexican Stove. Thanks for sharing!

I like traditions too, and like you, I think it's such a shame when testimony of the past like this one, disappears!
I like the warm colour of the clay!
