[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the last post of my recent trip to Mexico. As I stated earlier of this series these shots are nothing but simple postcards to bring a flavor of Puerto Vallarta without any pretention of high standing photography.

To get in a landscape and nature photography modus I need to disconnect of any obligation regarding other people and time restraints. The sense of timeliness, exclusive focus on the landscape in front of me, the weather, the light conditions, the colors … in essence I have to lose myself. It is like getting into trance and quite often I even do not realize the settings of my camera. Only later, when I’m back home and looking into the results I see the technical deficiencies.

I didn’t get a single moment into this “photographic trance” during my 1 week vacation in Mexico. The only shot that got close to that was Los Arcos. I disappeared for some minutes and when I was back my wife asked with that reproachfully voice where I have been. The grin in my face was more than an answer. She knew that I took some shots …

As a farewell as choose this shot. It is another version of Los Arcos. You can see three little dark islands at the left side of the image. That is Los Arcos from the distance, during the sunset and a wonderful dinner at the beach in Puerto Vallarta.

My next post will take a while. The coming weekend I will spend in the Mojave Desert, Monday in Las Vegas and than back to work.

i dont like frames but this one goes well with your orange composition... simple yet beautiful peter...

cheers

Hello Peter..long time. This is a well balanced grab..the shades of orange and red are indeed magical..a good balance of saturation..gives a mystic effect..the framing seems to work as well

Good one

Cheers
Sayeed

Why we all have reproachfully remarks from our wives?!!! I really think that a dinner while admiring such a beautiful sunset must be enough to calm down any nasty observation about taking photographs. Good on you, Peter. Very well done.
Antonio

Hello Peter,

This is very nice. The warm colours of the evening work very fine in this ocean scene. The mountains and clouds give the image some dramatic elements. Good pano format and details. Thanks Peter.

Roberto

Welcome Back Peter,
For not having much time for your great photo shoots you have captured the true feeling we all have for the warm beachs down south. The purple and orange are a compliment to any scene, and this included is a beauty.
I know that smile indeed, there have been times when I have done without my camera and when the time arrived to go back to it, well, nothing seemed important any longer, and the smile returned after a long absence.
Excellent work.....
Steve

Hi Peter,
This is not simple postcard. This is quality postcard, one of those that are sold with double the price compared to usual weather beaten ones that hang on racks on any kiosk on touristy places. Simply beautiful, no reason to be modest because you didn't climb mountains to get it this time.
I've always liked warm, uniform colour tones of sunsets. And those clouds look great.
Your off-center framing sort of requires a title at the bottom.
Kari

Andre

hello Peter,
a nice moody image with good colors, I just may miss some stronger subject, but not sure.

Peter,

Bela tomada!
Abraço,
Carlos

Hi Peter,
A good presentation is half the image i once read. Well, i a way they are right, but if the image sucks even a nice frame will help you, that's for sure. But here we see a very good example of a good presentation in black with a nice line in it...fitts the image well.
The photo itself is classic, but beautiful thanks to the clouds and the mountains to the left (some red color noise in them?), but for a perfect balance you needed a boat on the right ;-)
Whatever, we can't have it all, we keep on struggling, that's why photography stays nice.
Have a nice stay in LV...don't spend to much money ;-)
Regards, Henk

Barbara.

Hola Peter.
Beautiful sunset with warm colors and a nice silhouette of the mountains and especially the three islands. Very well captured.
Hope you have a wonderful time on your trip to the desert and then Las Vegas.
I'm going to Miami next week to spend Thanksgiving with my son and his family.
Un fuerte abrazo amigo.

Hi Peter,

No reason at all to feel bad about pretty postcards! ;-) And you're right about the things you are telling about professional photography. I don't even think you'll loose yourself, but if you're travelling with friends or family you will surely loose them when you start to take half a day to get a few pictures of a mountain...

Your wife has surely been lucky with this trip! :-D

Greetings,
Dennis

Hello Peter! Wonderful color capture and the frame compliments the scene nicely. The composition is very minimalistic, perhaps a little too minimalistic for me. Perhaps if the seastacks were a little closer to the foreground instead of being so distant it would make the composition stronger to me. But of course you have achieved your objective to show us the great photographic potential of this destination.

TFS
Doug

Nice work and a nice texture and colour of the light. Love the framing and composition. A great mood captured here.

MC

A very pleasing choice of framing and cropping. The light is also very warm and inviting. I know what you mean about forgetting time exists. I too have sometimes forgotten to change my camera settings from one shot to another.Looking forward to the Mojave images.

Hello Peter,

I like the wonderful pink coloure to the sky.
But the clouds are a splendid painting against the sky, splendid contrast too.
Lovely composition, I like it with this frame.
Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Leonor

Hi Peter,

Your umpretensious shot its far better them my best landscapes. Nice way to say goodbye to Mexico!
Thanks for sharing the secrete of your perfect shots. Knowing how your wife fells made me think about a solution, lets have a 'club' for wives and husbands of TE members and photographers! :)At least this way they can share their frustrations of having to deal with our photography bug. Love to see your pictures from the desert!

Take Care,

Flavia

Hello Peter -

What to say? I like this image and then again I don't like it. With that said lets see if I can communicate whats what. Likes: The strong side light, the post sunset colors, the balance between sea and sky. Dislikes: the heavy black frame, the softness, and the lack of detail. These are all subjective statements and should be taken with a large grain of salt considering you took this w/o the aid of a tripod and your stated purpose was snaps only. I hope the wife was not too "torqued off" with you. Well done considering your goals and limitations.

Thank you for sharing.

John

I love the different layers created by the red colours of the sunset. Great picture.
Best wishes,
Achim

Olá Peter!
Uma bela panorâmica, e esses tons laranjados ficaram ótimos, passam uma bela impressão do calor mexicano.
Parabéns e Abraço!

Hi Peter,
Lovely varying tones of orange and yellow in this simple yet very pleasing of the sun setting over the Mexican sea.

Fala, flamenguista sofredor.
Astonishing.

Hello Peter,

I appreciate your efforts with this particular frame, and it has really made a great poster, which many people would like to see on their wall.. The light is sublime, and the panoramic format is well chosen hereç

Friendly yours - Izzet

Hi Peter!

Beautiful landscape, excellent golden hour shot! Great panoramic framing, great composition and excellent light managment. I also like your form of presentation with those bars up and down. The combinations of deep orange and black is one of my favorites. Congratulations!

It's a lovely sunset shot.
This mix of orange-red colors is great.
I also like your notes (;-)) I've seen some parralel with situations I have met.

Hi Peter, I really like the simplicity to this composition, which gives emphasis to the beauty of nature....pure and simple. The cloud formation which kind of mirrors the landscape, to me is the heart of this image. Colours and lighting are superb. Well done.
