The one week vacation that I spend in Puerto Vallarta was to rest from my job and from TE. My wife and a plethora of an additional 9 family members were actually the center of attention, but I couldn’t resist to take my camera with me. The shots that I did were mainly family centered and sometimes I did some cheap postcard shots of the surroundings. I didn’t have the time and leisure to do real nature and landsape photography.

Puerto Vallarta has its economy mainly oriented to the seasonal influx of tourists. Mexican, American and Canadian tourists are the bulk. Former were always attracted to the little city and its beaches, but in the 1960's the film director John Huston and the actors Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor put the place on the American vacation map. That triggered obviously a huge construction boom that still didn’t end.

In the present post you can see the little city with the 1-3 story buildings surrounded by many coconut trees in the foreground with the redbrick tower of the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. All the tall and certainly not attractive buildings that you see in the background up the slopes are the results of the aggressive constructions to accommodate the innumerous tourists. Imagine for a moment this place without those buildings and tourists and you would be in a subtropical paradise with a picturesque little fisher town on the Pacific Ocean

Hi Peter,
Enjoyed your pictures and glad to see that you are "active" again; although, I am sure your wife and family were happy to see you resting
Gave in to the irresistible however, didn't you?
You have no idea how you were missed, imagine all those pts surviving without their neuro exams!!

Hi Peter,
Pleasant holiday scene. Steeply rising hills make this a bit different. And it's interesting to compare old town with those bigger hotel or apartment buildings on the background. I'd like to see a bit more of the foreground beach.

Bien vu !

A+

Hope you enjoy your holidays. Wonderful shot. Great natural colours, nice bay. Interesting to the all the green in the backround
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Peter,

Sometimes is good to take vacations from everything even from things we like. I see that eventhough you centered your shots on family and friends you still came back with some nice genral ones. This one has something, it is a very decent postcard from this nice beach. The inclusion of people walking on the beach works well and the city on the background was well captured. Its true that the scenery would be much more pleasant without the big buildings... but that seems to be the price to pay for the development?...

Best Regards,

Flavia

Hi Peter,
Paying some extra attention to the wife instead of TE is a wise decision ;-)
The photo is not something on the quality that i am used to see from you. Maybe this is not the right area, at least not the right light that you captured here. It's a bit hazy on the mountain and the houses, but the blue ocean gave you a very nice contrast to it. The people walking on the beach give a focus point and add a something extra.
Regards, Henk

Hi Peter
I like the fact that you included the people in the lower left. By the way I am printing an image that I posted called "Desert layers" and I have cropped it as per your suggestion. It looks quite good. Thanks for the suggestion.

Very good work Peter! Composition is enhanced nicely with the angled shoreline and the inclusion of the beach combers adds a wistful ambiance for me. The hazy air in the distance confirms this is a tropical paradise.

Well done!

Hi Peter,
good composition. I like the layering of the village and the grouping of the elements.
Well done - a postcard in the good sense.

Hello Peter -

It is a very good idea once in a while to focus on the wife and family rather than always making images. I had to make those same compromises on my past trip so I did not always get the image I wanted. For a quick snap this is not bad but it is sure a let down from some of your other images. In this image we have some very contrasty light but here it is working for you portraying the warmth and humidity of this beach side community. IMO, the FG bush should have been eliminated or should have been sharply in focus. I am having a hard time trying to figure out what the yellow is - is it leaves or is it flowers? IMO the bush and the highlights are distracting. The people on the beach are good FG elements and add strength to the composition. All-in-all a nice snap to remember the trip.

Thank you for sharing.

John

Peter,
Quite a nice Travelogue type capture. I am ambivalent about the tourism because it does so much to support the local economies. Granted that it is also affecting the local lifestyle, in general, the standard of living in tourist areas is quite a bit higher than in other areas. We do the same thing. There was an old "Eagles" song named "Call Someplace Paradise and Kiss It Goodbye." We find an unspoiled spot, then open a real estate office and a Chamber of Commerce so we can sell it to everyone else!

Hello Peter,

I missing the heigher ISO and the higher F, it's a very nice picture but without the perfectly depth sharpness.
I want you absolutely not hurt Peter, want this image is very well, but I try the small details to improve.
I hope that you did appreciate.

Best regards,
John.

Hi Peter,
Henk has nailed it perfectly, especially about paying attention to the wife. It is basically impossible to focus on photography with a host of family members. As the chief cook at my family gatherings, I even rely on Larry or my my son & granddaughter for family photos.

Nice tropical image with the beach winding around to catch the background of the modern city and distant hills.

Hola Peter.
Your picture was very well captured from a high POV permitting us to see the city of Puerto Vallarta and the surroundings, it really looks like a crowded place. Your expression about "to rest from my job AND FROM TE" is very real. My two weeks in Argentina with members of my family and friends (no wives) was excellent, if you haven't been there try to go, you will enjoy it. Now I have to take Rosa to Miami for Thanksgiving.
Un fuerte abrazo amigo.

Hi Peter!

Excellent, clever and funny title! Unusual photo for you, not your "extraterrestial" landscapes, but still a beautiful one! The composition and the perspective created by the shore are for the textbooks. I think you 've overdone it a little bit with contrast but that's just personal "taste". Congratulations!

Hercules

Gostei! Um abraço, Consuelo

I enjoy your title, your note and I try to imagine that without the building... I can't ! Unfortunately... And that's the problem !!
Useful post.
Stéphane

I think this would have been better composed using 100-115mm focal length. Everything looks too scrunched-in to the frame.

The people walking are just barely in the shot, but the unfocused mass of foliage in the lower left corner made it. The surf line originating smack dab in the lower right corner leads only weakly into an unimportant area of the scene, the base of a jetty obscured by the out-of-focus foliage. The tiny peek at the mountains beyond, in the upper right corner is more distraction than substance.

Pretty good detail in the shadows and quarter tones, though. Note was detailed and appreciated.

Chris
