Jacaranda Tree - Village Scene
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Here is a view of a jacaranda tree in full bloom, with its signature purple flowers that blossom in this part of Mexico in spring. It sits in an open space that seem to be ruins of a former residence in the small town of Techaluta, Jalisco. It's next to the town church, San Sebastián.
The parish was established by Franciscans from Spain in the 16th century, and the church seems to have been built in phases (possibly destroyed by an earthquake or two in the process), culminating in the 19th century. It's a simple, somewhat neoclassical/Romanesque structure, and since the town wasn't officially declared a municipality until the 19th century, it looks like the church was expanded shortly after that.
In the foreground is part of a pitaya cactus. The fruit of this cactus provides part of the economic lifeblood of the town, which is known throughout this part of Mexico for producing some of the best pitaya fruit.
This remarkable fruit is flavorful and borders on a sensual experience to eat! The flesh of the fruit is peeled back to expose a pulpy interior with colors ranging from red to puple, orange to yellow, and even white. This fruit blossoms in May, which provides an occasion for the town to celebrate and hold its annual "Feria de la Pitaya."
(Apologies for the small portion of a roof in the lower left-hand corner of the shot. I couldn't crop it out, and I didn't want to manipulate the shot by removing it...) |

Hey Jose,
very interesting shot (great lighting!), full of unusual details and colors. They all fit and mix very well together while retaining their very own identity. Both architecture and nature seem to coexist very peacefully in this picture...
From what I know about you, I KNOW you payed a great deal of attention to get this one done.
And I think that jaracanda tree is absolutely wonderful.
Great job and great note!
A big hug for now,
Fulvio.
Hello Jose,
Well done frame. Composition, light and sharpness are very well.
By the way, flowers of tree are very beatiful.
Your explanation is also so helpful.
TFS,
Have a nice day.

Hi José!
Lovely the pov you have chosen to show to all of us this beautiful corner you had the chance to go to. The inclusion of the tree, the placing of the church tower on the left side, the light awesome, and the rest of the element that composes your image, makes a great result.
Cheers my friend, how spectacular was the collapse of the highway in SFco!
Hugs from Spain!
Miguel
The jacaranda and the church make an attractive combination, 2 things can be improved here: the angle of the sun is such that the facade of the church is entirely in shadow, it would have been better either earlier or later in the day. The rof in the corner doesn't bother me as much as the cross on top of the belltower being cut off, maybe aiming higher would be better, I don't think it would have compromised anything worth keeping at the bottom.
