Photographer’s Note

La Quebrada is perhaps Acapulco's most iconic attraction, a place that has come to symbolize the city itself. Every day at 1:00 p.m., Clavadistas (young men) dive from La Quebrada's perilous and jagged cliffs, timing their jump to coincide with the incoming waves that cushion their impact and protect them from landing in the shallows. Come evening, more diving takes place.

For generations, brave young men from Acapulco have hurled themselves off the majestic cliffs jutting out over the Pacific Ocean. These fearless fellows dive into a narrow inlet where huge waves enter and crash over the rocks. The timing of their dives is crucial and must be perfectly executed due to the dangerous water conditions below.

After this shot, my battery was down and I didn't had the divers in action.

i like this shot a lot the composition and all well done having one of these men in mid dive I think might have made a better shot I get it I like the people watching the event in the bottom of the frame, good work like you said the diver's in action would have works I saw men doing this on the travel channel it was amazing to me them being so high up still a good capture IMO.

Opnieuw een goede foto Fred, met zeer spectaculair beeld, the rotsen zijn mooi, het silhouet van de twee jongens boven mooi te zien, de wachtende mensen beneden met fototoestel in aanslag, spijtig voor de witte vlek in de hemel. Nochtans een mooie samenstelling. Goed gezien!

Impressionante la hauteur ! La scène valait bien une photo même si les conditions n'étaient pas facile avec cette falaise sombre et le ciel si lumineux.
Tu nous réserve un cliché d'un "Clavadista" en plein vol ?

With your note and the sign hanging down the cliff in front of the two figures up on the top of the cliff plus the gang of onlookers in the foreground all combine to convey just how much this place and the divers draw in tourists.

Although it would be a bit time consuming, I think the image would be improved some if you were to select the sky and ocean in the background and darken this a bit using curves as this area seems a bit blown out. Really a good shot as is though as the points of interest are in the foreground. Very good photo considering the difficult lighting situation. Nice work.

I've heard about those guys, Fred, that seems indeed to be a famous thing to see in Acapulco. Good composing with the viewers on the platform at the bottom, the two guys getting ready, and the sheer rugged cliffs in between - there seems to be a feeling of anticipation in the air. This was a difficult one to expose but I think you can be happy with the result. Too bad your battery let you down when you would have needed it most.

Prévoir toujours une batteie de secours en cas d'urgence Fred.
maintenant tu vas prendre le premier avion en partance pour le Mexique.
On remarque la petite chapelle où le plongeur fait une prière avant de se lancer dans le vide.
Le contre-jour est appréciable et le rocher donne une ambiance tragique sur ce qui va se passer après la panne de batterie.

Je suppose que ces jeunes plongeurs pratiquent le "saut de l'ange", saut très périlleux s'il en est.
En tout cas, les touristes semblent apprécier, les doigts des photographes doivent appuyer avec véhémence sur le déclencheur.
Belle composition où la roche se détache parfaitement et donne une véritable impression de profondeur.

le fameu rocher d'ou les plongeons se font...on le voit souvent a la tele...super de l'avoir poster...il y a rarement des accidents ...mais quand-même...faut pas avoir le vertige...belle photo de part sa perspective et son cadrage...celà nous montre bien ce qui va se dérouler...merci et bonne nuit...BI

J'aime mieux cette vue, sous cet angle, que celle de hier...
Le contre jour est bien maitrisé, et effectivement, il aurait peut être pas fallut faire cette photo et attendre que l'un des plongeur aute.... mais c'est facile de le dire après...
Mais c'est tout de même bien Fred, et le souvenir qui reste dans la tête personne ne vous l'enlèvera.

THat's why I always carry a spare battery, Fred. Anyway, I like this shot. The inclusion of the watching people is smart. The area water looks so small from this angle, and it seems very dangerous. A good shot of this famous place.

Impressionant mais peut-être pas autant quand on admire ce spectacle de visu lequel doit donner la chair de poule?
Je suppose que tous prient avant le saut et applaudissent après?
Ce contre jour, semble-t-il, n'est pas si facile à gerer pour donner la dimension des lieux..
Dommage pour la batterie on aurait eu peut-être aussi le frisson..

les fous , image impressionnante on imagine bien le saut faut pas se louper quand même . Beau cadrage .
