Always from my boat, I saw many pelicans like this one but here was the closest.

Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)

Range and Habitat
Sandy beaches, lagoons
Resident on Pacific coast from southern California to Chile
Resident of Atlantic coast from North Carolina to Venezuela
After breeding season, north as far as British Columbia

Physical Characteristics
45-54"
Sexes similar
Huge, dark bird
Long bill with a pouch, dark on Atlantic/Gulf coasts; bill paler along Pacific coast, becomes yellow during breeding season
Flies with neck tucked
Plunges from great heights into water to catch fish
Adult alternate
White foreneck and head with yellow crown
Chestnut neck and nape
Gray-brown body plumage with slightly darker flight feathers
Adult basic
Yellowish crown
White head and neck
Gray-brown body plumage with slightly darker flight feathers
Immature
Dark brown overall, gradually acquiring adult plumage over three years

Belle luminosité, beau cadrage, l'image est d'une clarté exceptionnelle. La roche est superbe. Belle photo en général.

De plus en plus intéressant !
Le Guano sert de réflecteur naturel pour éclairer le pélican par le bas; d'habitude il est utilisé comme engrais.
Le reste de luminosité donne une image en relief et un background sombre, une composition en 3D en somme.

Mooie foto van deze Pillekaan, en schitterend de omgeving waar deze vogel te vinden is, het water ronde de rots geeft een mooi beeld voor de totaliteit van de foto. Ik hou wel van de water beweging. Mooi dieren foto Fred!

The pelicans were really my favorites during my Florida trip this spring. Here is a nice catch of a brown one "posing" on a rock. Ideally he would stand out a little better against the surroundings but it wasn't your choice and you did well getting this photo from the boat. I like the glittering effect at the bottom where the water meets the rock. Nice shot, Fred.

Je m'incline devant la qualité photographique Fred ! Les pièges étaient pourtant nombreux : hautes et basses lumières. Ici, point de surex ou de sous-exposition !
Le pélican est fort bien placé (ligne forte de la composition).
Une note d'accompagnement fort détaillée, que demander de plus, rien !
Sinon un grand merci pour le partage.

merci pour avoir repondu a mon temoignage...j'aime ta photo postée ...je l'a trouve un peu sombre...mais est-ce ma vue en ce moment qui parait tout noir...sourire...on se croirait dans un petit coin de jungle acec des toiles d'araignées en fond ...c'est vrai que c'est bientôt halloween...l'animal est supebement mis en valeur..et son détail bien rendu...amitiés BI

Belle prise Fred, un très bon cadrage, l'oiseau très bien positionné. Pour la roche, j'aurais trouvé plus plaisant qu'elle soit éclatante, un peu comme celle derrière, elle est un petit peu pâle !! bien vu.

Belle réussite avec un sujet bien placé dans un cadre qui lui va à merveille.

Oh - great and funny as well - I justed whatched the movie "The pelican breif" for god knows which times - and they mention the brown pelican - I like the composition you got here and the stone with a slope a real scoop for the shot - a real fine job - I like it very much.
