[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is Las Pozas, (the pools) just outside the town of Xilitla in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. It was built by one of the great patrons of arts and in particular surrealist art, Edward James. Construction of the park began in 1949 and took 20 years to complete although even at his death in 1984 it was never fully completed. He was interested in both the surrealist world and experimantation with architecture. So this concrete tribute in the middle of the jungle is very fitting. Edward James patronage of surrealist artists included Salvador Dalí, René Magritte and Lenora Carrington. All his life he surrounded himself with such people, of these it is believed that Dalí may have helped to design some little touches of Las Pozas with James. This is a truly unique park that has to be seen to be believed, so if you are going to be in the area, it is well worth a visit.
