The colors of the Mexican flag represent: green: hope, the white: purity, peace and the unit, and red : the blood of the national heroes.
The central shield of arms is inspired by a legend that prophesied that the Aztec town would be guided by Huitzilopochtli towards a place where an eagle would descend on a cactus to devour a serpent.
The signal appeared after years of peregrination in an island of the Texcoco Lake, and the new home was called Mexico-Tenochtitlan ("in the navel of the Moon, place of the cactus").
There a city was based on 1325 AC, in which today it is downtown of Mexico.
