Juan Soriano, was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the 18 of August of 1920, and from his first exhibition, before turning the 15 years of age, became fundamental figure of the plastic contemporary, with a work in constant evolution that includes painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, carpet, enamels and theater stage scenes, that have deserved him the international recognition.
It has received diverse prizes and recognitions, between which they emphasize the following ones: the Prize Merciful Jose Orozco 1957, of the Government of the State of Jalisco; in 1987, the Mexican government grants the National Prize to him of Art; Horseman of the Arts is named and the Letters by the French government and the Prize Jalisco de Arte is given to him. In 2004, France grants the commission rank to him of the Legion of Honor and a year later, Spain grants to the Prize Velasquez to him de Plastic Artes and in our country the Commemorative Medal of the National Palace of Beautiful Arts is given to him.
In the Mexican Southeastern, Villahermosa Tabasco, the capital city of the tabasqueños has the honor to count on a significant work of the teacher Soriano, the monumental sculpture Toro, located in the Park Tomás Garrido Canabal, next to the Lagoon of the Illusions |
