Photographer’s Note

Tapijulapa, Tacotalpa, Tabasco, Mexico.

Tapijulapa means "place where they break pitchers", it is located in the municipality of Tacotalpa, name that comes from the words náhuatl Taco-Tlal-Pan that it means "earth of heaths and overgrowths". Tapijulapa is a small town to 90 kms of Villahermosa. It is located beside two rivers in fork: Amatán (river with waters green color) and Oxolotán (river at waters brown color), in the region of the mountain "Sierra" of Tabasco.

The Villa of Tapijulapa, picturesque and pleasant population that conserves their traditions and architecture with roofs of tiles, balconies and white facades; their serpentine narrow and paved streets conform a harmonious group. Santiago's built Apostle temple at the end of the XVII century, is located in the highest part in a hill from where the valleys, mountains and exuberant vegetation are admired that surround the area, besides the fork of the rivers Oxolotán and Amatán that can be traveled in motor boats, leaving of the pier that is very near the population's center. In this town beautiful wooden crafts and wicker are elaborated, with those that elaborate excellent furniture and ornamental articles.

I took this picture from the hill where it is built Santiago's Apostle temple.
