Photographer's Note

The Grand Pyramid - structure C1 - is at the heart of La Venta. Having climbed to its top, some 30 metres, I descended and followed a faint path through the lush grass to the east and south. I was escorted by my faithful hoard of insects. This is the view from the south. Immediately in front is Stela 2, and I shall upload a closeup of this tomorrow, offering greater clarity.

Note: This Grand Pyramid at La Venta was the precursor of all other pyramid structures in Mesoamerica!

Despite the fact that La Venta ("the sale" in Spanish, indicating its commercial focus) has been explored since the 1950's, most of the architectural complexes are still to be opened up and examined - including C1.
