Photographer's Note

Just as the traditional black cab has been an icon of London streets for decades, little round green and white Beetles have served a similar duty in Mexico. Long after the Volkswagen Type 1 had ceased being produced everywhere else in the world, VW's Puebla Mexico plant continued to build Beetles until 2003. Many of those Beetles continue to shuttle passengers around Mexico City and elsewhere, but perhaps not for much longer. Just as cities like New York and San Francisco want their taxi fleets converted to hybrids over the next few years, Mexican officials want to retire the classic Beetles. Mexico City has some of the worst pollution in North America and the old bugs are blamed for at least some of the mess. Transport Ministry officials have set 2012 as a deadline for replacing the bugs but haven't yet picked a replacement. Whatever is selected will likely top the 19 mpg the Beetles get, and be safer and much cleaner.

Não é facil captar este género de fotografias! Gostei da ideia de movimento dada pela imagem graças à teu saber fazer! Para além disso, confesso que sempre gostei das formas redondas do carocha! Parabéns!

Très joli symbole du Mexique, on n' jamais arrêté la production la-bas, contrairement à chez-nous, mais elles sont réapparues les dernières années. Bien suivi la voiture, avec une exposition lente, pour obtenir un fond flou et la mettre en valeur. Beau contraste de couleurs. Celle que j'ai prise au Mexique et que j'ai déjà publiée: voir.

I had one of those in ancient times, a reliable car but awfully cold in winter...

The lovely iconic green bug really stands out against the muted Mexican street.
They were great little cars that were very reliable and I did not know they were still in production until 2003.

Yesss that is the old and never breaking down beatle!!! Interesting that he is used as a taxi in Mexico, but why not. Good speed shot, showing that the driver really tries to be fast. Fine color hues and true colors. Well done.

Olá Lucas,
este escarabajo que todavía funciona como taxi en la ciudad de México tiene un gran potencial cromático, y se destaca sobre el fondo perfectamente borroso, en un gran trabajo de barrido de la imagen para dar una buena sensación de movimiento y velocidad.
Me gusta el resultado obtenido, es una foto muy viva y dinámica.

A good capture!

I like the sensation of movement here with the car perfectly at focus while the background is blurred, and the tight framing allows us to appreciate every details. Lovely colours and lights too. Pleasant photo and interesting note.
