Sunset at Los Arcos is big business, there was a ‘pirate’ ship, and several smaller boats, one towing a parasailer and there were pelicans everywhere, including this fellow diving for a last meal before he lost the light. I'll post a inferior version of the boat on which we were sailing in the WS
It is almost impossible to avoid time-share presentations. On both trips we managed to escape the onslaught at the airport only to be captured while picking up a car on our prior visit or while checking into the hotel on this visit. The bribes to attend the presentation run from $250 US to a free dinner cruise. On the prior visit, three hours of time paid for our car rental. We sold out cheaply this time trading an hour of time for a Jazz Cruise.
We were disappointed in our expectation of live music. However, at least for me, the fact that the boat actually sailed, more than made up for the lack of live music. My spouse, the jazz fan and eternal ship's captain, was less charmed. At first he was pleased, pointing out with enthusiasm, “That’s the same mast we had on Wild Thing.” Soon he was grumbling, “He doesn’t have the mast rotated far enough,” and later, “He’s got the sails pulled in hard on a broad reach.”

What a shot Pat, lovely colours and stunning scenery, very well captured..
Cormac (26545) 2007-01-20 23:46
Great looking shot - how did you persude the bird to pose in the hole in the rock for you? Stunning colour and the rock formation is pretty dramatic too. Well done!
pboehringer (770) 2007-01-20 23:48
Hi Pat, WOW ... are these real colors? Amazing combination of colors, almost surreal. The diving pelican right in the middle of the arch is real bonus.
aloyho (6798) 2007-01-21 0:37
This is what we meant by perfect timing. The arch even helped us to really focus on the dive. I enjoyed the lovely colours and the purple is alluring. The shape of the rock even mimic a rabbit taking a sip. Congratulations!!! Best regards.

Very nice cpture of amazing colors, with nice POV.
Bird just in the arch middle adds a lot, of course.
Very nice job,
james-r (676) 2007-01-21 0:56
What more can I add..? That pelican position is just perfect and takes the whole image to another level - super timing to catch that, very well done.
alainh (35561) 2007-01-21 1:32

Good morning Patricia
I really love how you framed this arch including the bird. I like also the soft colors of it.
ribeiroantonio (22631) 2007-01-21 4:17
Wow, a diving pelican in the middle of the arch. What a great shot. The colours are stunning and the POV fantastic. I love it. Well done.
feather (51128) 2007-01-21 5:07
Beautiful image Pat. The sunset colours are breath-taking and make the perfect background for the rock formation. As for your timing to catch the diving pelican it was absolutely impeccable. Very well done
Gerrit (43763) 2007-01-21 5:09
excellent picture. The colours, the rockformation and the wonderfaul catch of the fishing pelican are falling together very well in this little masterpiece.
pady (4800) 2007-01-21 5:19
Lovely scene with brilliant colors and a bird well catched at the right moment.
A nice composition
nwoehnl (122) 2007-01-21 5:40
Beautiful photo, Pat - the coastside rock formation makes a fine photo subject in almost any imaginable setting, but you really hit the jackpot on this one with the pelican just in front of the arch, plus the lively colors that you found for this presentation. Very nice work.
besnard (49949) 2007-01-21 5:40
Superbe prise de cet oiseau situé au bon endroit, au bon moment. Les couleurs sont très belles.
Merci pour le partage et bon dimanche.
markstaples (15670) 2007-01-21 6:56
This is truly remarkable. The colours are stunning, but to have caught the pelican in the arch takes skill. Great lighting too. Excellent work Pat.
josepmarin (56481) 2007-01-21 6:57
cherryripe (21015) 2007-01-21 8:29
Excellent timing with the pelican perfectly placed. Beautiful sky and interesting texture of the sea.
Your stressful note contrasts strongly with the peaceful image.
imrek (4) 2007-01-21 8:36
superb shot, very good composition and an interesting scenery with great colours and hues...well done!!!
lestans (16896) 2007-01-21 12:41
How clever you had been in capturing this picture!!
Beautiful also your colors!
Didi (51269) 2007-01-21 14:13
Looks like a prehistoric decor; very nice warm lights.
The rock looks like an animal eating.
delkoo (68) 2007-01-21 15:49
the sky is on fire!!!
you caught perfectly the bird at the right time and the final result is wonderful.
Angelillo (9368) 2007-01-21 15:53
What a beautiful sunset! I'm touched mainly by the colors of the sky, seems really fire and it's absolutely impressive. The rocks are a perfect formation and the moment with the pelican is the détail makes this shot absolutely unique! Thanks and best wishes,
gunbud (34066) 2007-01-21 16:23
Beautiful sunset seen through this magnificent stone arch with the pelican diving for his dinner makes this beauty sing.
jmcl (14535) 2007-01-21 19:30
wow those colors are just surreal (even after reading your note to Peter) .. wow, wow,
incredible timing with the bird. ... it is funny he is almost sitting in such a place that is disorienting in terms of depth for me.
ALIRIZA (16419) 2007-01-22 4:04
I can say only...
Congratulations my friend..
Have a nice week...
ktanska (22658) 2007-01-22 7:58
It's rare to see a shot where the most important elements of a good photograph get together so well: Good composition of a special landmark. beautiful light. And exact timing with the pelican.
But I'm less thrilled by your PP. The horizon line seems to continue through the rocks as you have given different PP on the sea and sky. And the pelican has totally diiferent colour balance. Either you have masked it off before PP or darkened it too much. Either way it now seems sort of glued on.
carper (96) 2007-01-22 9:08
wauw what a capture Patricia,
fantastic shot, great point of view, not an easy one but you did a fantastic job here, the colours are great even as the quality, very nice job, with my compliments.
cunejo200 (7281) 2007-01-22 11:33
WOnderful! The pelican inside the rock slot is centerpiece here. And of cours, the orange-ish color of the sky is breathtaking. Ecellent work. Danilo

Yesterday when I saw this jewel I was out of smiles.
But today you get one and you earned it.
An amazing shot with thie fire in the sky and the bird in a good pose and perfect position.Wonderful red and orange tones and good that there is enough light to see some fine details at the cliff.A great shot!!!
capthaddock (28790) 2007-01-22 19:31
Hi Pat - oh my, how gorgeous is this? and impeccable timing placing the pelican right in front of the hole, magical.
peter1892 (1681) 2007-01-22 19:34
Wonderful shot - those colours are amazing. The timing couldn't be better - both for the sunset, and of course the Pelican on a steep approach for dinner. Superb.
john_c (24662) 2007-01-22 21:29
You are much too casual in your presentation of this incredible image. You caught the exotic looking bird at a decisive moment, as if you had ordered it to appear in the open area of the rock. The sky and water hues here overwhem the senses. Well, you have sold me so far on the merits of travelling here, with or without the time-share perks. A memorable shot, Pat.
singuanti (15250) 2007-01-23 23:01
Hi Pat. Good grief what a shot!! Everything is perfect and there isn't a thing I would do any different. You sure pressed the shutter at the right time with the pelican. Awesome shot Pat!
isabela_sor (47379) 2007-01-24 3:37
Ohhh,my God!!!!Awesome picture!Much more than excellent!!!!Cooooongratulations,dear Pat
Thanks for posting
Angshu (52890) 2007-01-24 3:59
Absolutely superb timing with the pelican is a great position. The colours, are like a painting, surreal, both of the sky & the water. Did you do different PP on the water & the sky? Magical pic
rhizomes (15343) 2007-01-24 12:19
Impressive timing to capture the bird just in the arch ! Great colors and very nice composition.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2007-01-24 23:29

Great shot with superb colours and this pelican that you ctached at such a decisive moment! This is unique. Congratulations!
zumoduvas (2069) 2007-01-26 10:00
Excelente imagen la que muestras, destacando el ave pero sobre todo ese ciela ardiente.
Polonaise (5802) 2007-01-26 23:30
Holy on high !
IT IS BEAUTIFUL !
This shot was made by a sniper with the soul of a white dove.
This pelican out there...
Is this even possible to do execute such brilliant shot.
Stuned and amazed...
Yesterday was your 1st. aniversary on TE, dear Pat.
All the best with your passion.
Keep the flames go higher and higher.

OOPS! How did I miss this one.Amazing colours and lovely composition.FULL MARKS!!!!!!!
PixelTerror (0) 2007-01-28 11:27
The place was intersting enough to shoot a picture and present it here, and the sunset colors add an out of earth atmosphere, but the diving pelican brings us back to reality, it is really our planet, and this photo turned out best because of your excellent timing.
Have a nice sunday,
nels (2617) 2007-02-02 5:44
hi pat, perfect timing brilliant capture love the colours

Emile (20348) 2007-02-02 16:19
Excellent shot with an amazing composition, very nice colors and you captured it with a very good POV. Love the way you got the pelican with the arch of the rock in the back.
Very well done. TFS.
ElAprendiz (30) 2007-02-15 10:45
Felicitaciones
bigric (2873) 2007-05-08 2:48
Wow great timing. It is so hard to get the pelicans in the right spot. You have done well and thankyou for your comments on my waves photos.
warm regards richard.
marietom (34607) 2007-06-08 13:27
très bien vue, cette photo ! Sur la vignette, je pensais qu'il s'agissait de l'ombre d'un animal en train de boire. Jolies couleurs, l'oiseau est merveilleusement bien placé !
daddo (20639) 2007-06-26 5:34
Hi Pat. A scene that could have come from the dawn of time. There is something eerie here with the orange reddish light, the cliff's formation and the bird that looks like a prehistoric creature.Very evocative. Regards. Klaudio,
edytungkal (4551) 2007-09-06 0:56
Wow.. again a wonderful sunset scene Pat..
The bird flying really a nice subject, colours are very beautiful. Thanks

I feel like a kid in the proverbal candy store when I browse through your gallery. So many great photos to critique and so little time. This is an amazing shot and you couldn't have timed the diving pelican any better. You must have prefocused on the pelican the get the bird so sharp. Fantastic work!
zmey (7335) 2008-04-10 6:14
so, i took a look deep into your gallery to find out what mexico has to offer for scenery starving photographers ;) this is quite a shot in my opinion. dramatic sky, imposing rocks and the bird diving into the sea right against the opening in the rock. very well timed, my friend. especially given the rather slow shutter speed you were using.
fritzi007 (63) 2009-07-01 12:59
Eine Aufnahme wie aus einen Film, wunderschön!
Dyerco (10185) 2009-10-13 20:25
This came up on your random selection and it caught my eye. The pelican was well placed in this scene and you couldn't have asked for a better place for him/her to dive. It is amazingly sharp for 1/60th of a second but did good girl.
sadeik (3264) 2010-01-30 10:08
A great shot with the pelican diving and the last rays of light. Well caught and positioned
