Photographer's Note

Playa Balandra is an amazingly picturesque tidal lagoon just north of La Paz. When the tide is in, you can wade across several hundred meters of chest-high water. When the tide goes out, there are hectares of wet sand. It is almost entirely undeveloped -- a small parking lot and a clutch of small palapas is all that is there.
From the air, the water can appear pure turquoise. I encourage you to google for images of "Playa Balandra" to see what I mean. Although I couldn't afford to charter an airplane, I wanted to try to show the scale of the place -- Google Earth says the ridge at the top of this foto is nearly 400 feet above sea level.
