La Paz has a wonderful bayside boulevard, the Malecón. People walk, jog, and bicycle for exercise, recreation, or relaxation along its five-mile promenade. It features an impressive collection of statues that are always a delight to contemplate.
This is a detail from "Sirena con Delfines" ("Mermaid with Dolphins") by José Kuri Breña. It faces generally east and this foto was shot with the sirena looking pretty straight into the morning sun. The dappled sky is a rarity. The patina of the brass provides very interesting colors, but I chose to go monochrome here to accentuate the sculptor's art.
I have added another look at this piece as a workshop, just to allow you some sense of its scope.

Hats off on this, both the main posting and the workshop which make a breathtaking set of pictures. Statues and sculptures are one of my main interests in photography, and this really is a beauty. I was really impressed with this perfect conversion to black and white, which suits the subject perfectly, but then blown away by the color version which is equally excellent. Beautiful tones, beautiful statue and beautiful work photographing it. These would make a fantastic set of prints.
All the best

A very good capture, this time the option in B&W fits really well to the image, excellent focus and sharpness, a great photo exercise, amazing light management...and a superb workshop indeed!
Have a nice week end...

Great POV and a nice sharp capture. A great angle to show this piece of work and turning it B&W makes it more interesting with the shade of clouds in the sky as BG..TFS..Cheers

Hello Russ - Your WS posting shows off just how sinuous this mermaid is and I like it for that but this one is my favourite. Pin-sharp focus on the sculpture and excellent tonal detail across the surface. Beautifully composed across the diagonal and the sky is soft and unobtrusive and yet vital to the shot. B&W is an excellent choice here. Nice job indeed! Warm regards rosemary

What a beautiful sculpture and an excellent photo of it. I like the tight framing and how the mermaid is almost on a diagonal. You composed the shot superbly and the clouds seem to complement the textures of the mermaids tail. This is just a personal choice thing, but I'd like to see more contrast in this photo. I've done a WS, perhaps exaggerating it a little, but I hope that's ok with you. Sorry but for some reason (obviously the re-sizing thing) the dolphin's nose was cut off.
Cheers, have a great weekend

Apart from the lovely textural details of the sculpture, I just love how you have given it elegance and a fine composition, as it stretches diagonally across the frame.
My warm regards,

Like everyone else a fine monochrome view of the Sirena con Delfines. I especially like not only the combination of mermaid and dolphin, but your closeup revealing textures, details and the mermaid's scales.

I like your version and Lisa's Ws - both are very good. The sculpture is beautiful and you framed it very well. The light and the cloudy sky add a lot.

Ciao e buon fine settimana
