Castle Mountain, in Banff National Park. This is one of my favourite mountains, and yet I had very few pictures of it that I liked. Recently I had the opportunity to travel there in the early winter and get the shot that I've been looking for, but was impossible to take in the summer months. This was taken right at dawn, with the first sun just hitting the peaks. In the summer, the sunrise is far around toward the north, and the sunlight would fall on the other side of the mountain, leaving this side in shadow until late morning. The pool of water in the foreground is actually frozen, which is why the reflection seems a little fuzzy.

Great shot with a fine reflection. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The reflection adds depth to the scene. Your composition is great with the inclusion of the rocks in the foreground.

Hi Alvin, nice shot!
Those sun-lit peaks look gorgeous.
I think I've been in this place.
Did you have to climb over the fence?
litiancai (1048) 2008-11-20 19:55
I think you've created a fine composition with the reflection in the small pool of water and off centre water line leading us to the peak. The lighting is of course great with some lovely orange hues on the mountain and I love the depth of the image from foreground to background, all sharp. I'd be interested to see any other shots of the same area you captured because it looks like great photography conditions!

You've composed the photo extremely well with the pool and it's reflection in the foreground providing good interest, then leading towards the wonderful, sunlit mountain formation. The image is almost a B&W with the contrasted orange mountain and it's reflection adding nice contrast. Very well captured.

The golden colours in an otherwise grey scene provide an excellent contrast.

Superbe photo, magnifiquement composée, avec une profondeur de champ parfaite et un beau jeu de reflets-transparences. Très réussi!

Ah Alvin, you strike again. Excellent shot of Castle Mountain. Your composition is excellent, but the best part is the alpenglow on the mountains. I'm excited to see the rest of your shots from your trip. Great job.

Very good shot, congratulations !
The reflection is beautiful and colors on the mountain very nice. I like the sharpness on every point of this picture : foreground and background are so sharp !

Very beautiful light, and a great use of the wide angle lens, with the stones in foreground to introduce the background.

Great capture. You are fortunate to have the opportunity to get the chance to photograph in the Banff area this late in the year. Nice use oe the stones in the FG.

L'ouverture à f/16 donne une très grande profondeur de champ à cette photo. J'aime la composition avec les galets en premier plan puis les reflets et enfin cette forteresse naturelle sous les premiers rayons de soleil.
De la très belle photo.
Bon week end,

Really nice capture of Castle Mountain. Interesting notes regarding the sun, which is good to remember. I didn't notice the ice either, until I reread your notes. Altogether a really beautiful and peaceful representation of Castle Mountain, and well worth the early rising! Great work, cheers,

That's a beauty. I love that alpenglow reflected in the stream and the soft light on the foreground rocks. Just goes to show what area familiarization and returning to a location can offer.

perfect POV to get the red top of the mounts in reflection on the water, excellent framing and great depth, another hit of landscape photography ^^
fayeulle (27827) 2008-11-22 13:27
I really like the way you framed this picture including the mountain lightened by a low sun and its reflection in the calm water.

An impressive scene Alvin with great foreground details to complete the overall composition. The warm tones reflected in the water make the shot. I would like to see a little more detail in the shaded areas to seperate the trees. Very nice work.

WOW! Seriously Alvin, the colors you consistently produce with your Canadian mountain shots are impressive. The lighting and compo are both perfect. Well done my friend.
josepmarin (58359) 2008-11-26 9:57
This one is another of your elegant settings, in which you give a good space to the elements in foreground, with many details, including a spectacular landscape in background, always with a very beautiful light and a few reflections in the water, which they give a great attraction to the composition.
I like the warm tones of the sunrise's light on the rocks of these superb mountains.
Great shot, my friend.

Ciao dear Alvin, a beautiful landsscape image with a wonderful red reflection on the water
the textures of the stones is great and with a wonderful light
i like it a lot!
....snow is really a rare event in my town! :))

The reflections of the mountains in the water are assets to the composition. The point of view takes our eyes toward the mountain in the background which is giving depth to the photo. The picture is clear and precise. the l;ight is enhancing the colors of the scenery under a beautiful blue sky. Have a nice day.
