Photographer’s Note
A shot that I've been meaning to post for a while, and one of my early favorites.
July 5th was a bit of a crazy day for us, rushing around all over Jasper. Maligne Lake was a huge disappointment--completely overcast, mosquitoes out in the tens of thousands, and lightning on the horizon. We ate a very late dinner, swatting at mosquitoes, and started for our campsite.
About fifteen minutes after we left the lake, the sun broke through the clouds shortly before setting. As we crested a hill on the Maligne Lake Road, this is what we saw. I hopped out of the car and stood in the road (crazy, I know), snapped off a few pictures, and we were on our way again.
I'm glad I stopped. Those shots ended up being some of my favorites.

Yes, it's a nice view, I'm trying to remember he name of that mountain you pass on the way to Maligne Lake. Always a spectacular view, but the warm sidelight catching in the mist gives it the extra kick here. A bit of post-processing in order to darken the clouds might enhance the dramatic effect even more. Nicely composed, making use of the road to lead into the image.

Hi again Clark!
I can absolutely understand why this is a favourite shot of yours, the light is breathtaking, it's a lovely composition and the colours are great. I feel like the mountains in the distance should be sharper, but perhaps that's just the haze.
A fine photo!

Glad you stopped as well. Your PP here is really good. This photo again looks like a painting, and that is in a good way. Its taking advantage of dramatic light like this that produces the best photos. The ones that stand out among the rest. Of course it takes a great photographer to be able to capture the moment correctly. You did it Clark. Great job.

Hi Clark,
Another nice one. Really strong composition and nice timing to get that sunbeam across the mid-ground and into the trees. The fact that you saw this and knew you had to stop to make the best of it says something about you, your eye and your motivation.
Cheers buddy!

It is a great light, great colours and a great shot. The way the road direct the eye to the beautiful mountains is excellent and, maybe, the biggest feature of this picture. Well done.

Hi Clark,
this will probably sound very strange but I'm actually glad to read that things like that happen to others to...going somewhere to make great photos, end up all disappointed and only when going back home at the end of the day without any expectations left all mighty Gods give you the best possible present for all your efforts. I'm no serious photographer but I realised some time ago that great photos just cannot be forced. This captured moment is simply overwhelming, the land shyly revealing its beauty, just for a small moment, just for you. These kind of photos are usually most special and that is felt when looking at yours.
Warm regards,
Jeri

Clark,
As you might have guessed..... I have stumbled across your travelogue (this is my second crititque of your photo's in this series now), stunning photo's all round. Your images are definitely giving me the urge to make a visit!
Great photo with warm colours and cold colours contrasting nicely between the sundrenched trees and the colder snow topped mountain in the background. The depth given by the road is very good. It also leads your eye nicely into the image.
TFS,
Richard.
