Lake O'Hara, in Yoho National Park. I've been to this place several times now, and I'm always amazed by how clear and clean the water is, which is what I was trying to capture with this shot. The colour of the lake is pretty nice too, light blue/green water from the glacier runoff.
Lake O'Hara has restricted access, which means you need to reserve a place on the bus that takes visitors up the 15 km access road. They try to keep the visitors to a minimum in order to preserve the wildness and natural beauty of the area. Other nearby lakes (like Lake Louise and Moraine Lake) have no restrictions, however, Lake O'Hara may be the most beautiful of them all, and is well worth the effort to arrange a visit. For information on how to make a reservation (way too long for me to repeat here) go to the Parks Canada website and look under Yoho National Park.

Yoho looks like it might have to be added to my October itinerary. Wonderful alpine scenery with superb colour, sharpness & reflections. Tfs!

This is absolutely breath taking - stunning clarity, sharpness in perfect light conditions. Your images have always been outstanding, but this on is among the finest - the D700 maybe even helps to raise the bar? Love it. We are travelling now so really glad I found a few minutes to check in on TE - couldn't miss this one. Gerald

Hi Alvin, which fabulous smoothness and which landscape is each time a real pleasure to plunge itself in be stereotyped, congratulation. JO

It was something i had to skip, the weather was really bad when i was there. A real pity, because this lake looks also very beautiful. Maybe a reason too go back ;-)
The bright clear water is truly wonderful here and the strongest key in the photo. It shows great clarity and detail i love that part. The left side at the trees is a bit to dark for my taste. 20% more detail would suit me more i think, like something you have on the right.
Nevertheless a fine shot, taken in a great landscape...

Very beautiful this one.
Fantastic mix of colours and the reflections on the water create a perfect serenity .

Interesting shot of O'Hara. Very different from your typical shots. The lighting isn't great here, but I think you handled it pretty well. For me the thing that makes this is a nice shot is that bit of sunshine on the rocks of the lake in the foreground--a very nice touch.
P.S. I just commented on Henk's photo of Moraine Lake that I couldn't decide which was prettier--O'Hara, or Moraine. Seeing this reminds me that my vote is for O'Hara. :)

Hello Alvin. Which for a wonderful landscape. You realized this motive in masterful way photographically. Very beautifully and worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang.

You captured one of the most beautiful alpine landscape. It's true that the water is particularly clear.

Hi Alvin. Very nice and clear picture from Lake O'Hara - unfortunately we were too late on this year's trip to still get a reservation for one of the buses into the area. Lovely crisp and clear image, with a quite special lighting and a very pure and relaxing feeling conveyed. The left side with the pine trees maybe could use some slight brightening, as already mentioned by Henk. Another nice one with your new D700.

Encore une image absolument fantastique de ton beau pays que j'ai eu la chance de visiter il y a quelque temps. Je nn'ai malheureusement pas vu le lac O'Ara.
Magnifiques réflexions dans l'eau.

The photo is almost surreal with the razor sharp reflection over the transparent view of the rocks below. I particularly like the two angles of the left slope with the spikes of tree asnd cloud puff.
I see you got the D700!! I had to go back through your recent photos to see if I could pick out the D700 photos and I picked all but one of them so I can see why you're pleased with it.

C'est une photo incroyable. Exceptionnellement claire, en effet, et un dégradé qui va des couleurs chaudes aux froides. Bravo.

great shot, with beautiful reflections and warm colours. your POV captured a very nice depth.
luisafonso (862) 2008-09-26 13:42
Beautiful indeed. And so is your photograph. The light also helped a lot. Or better, you chased the right light here... That golden stream of light in the foreground, coming from the corner, is a bliss in this photo. The rest is well done too. Incredible.

I see now what I missed, but the weather wasn't really inviting to take the tour up to Lake O'Hara. This might be the right image to get me back to the Canadian Rockies. Very nice detail of the light coming in diagonally and ilumminating the rocks in the foreground and in sequence the reflections of the mountains, clouds and tress in the water.
I see two things that could be improved technically. One is certainly the lack of sharpness on the mountains in the background. Also the trees to the left seems to be to dark to my feeling. Anyway, these are my two cent opinion. Take it to seriously. The image is still a very good one that I wish to have in my gallery.

Splendid reflection image with the clouds in water.
You chose a vertical frame, this is very pleasant, perhaps once try with square format with this type of pictures, typical "carper" format.
Composition and colours are wonderful, very well done, TSF.
Have a nice weekend,

Hi Alvin, beautiful contrast of light and colour. I really like how the foreground is illumated here. very fine work..

Another splendid one that benefits from amazing clarity, adding good glass to a good body obviously pays off when you get such jewels.
Have a nice day JY

I like all you photos and it's getting repetitive praising your photos. Seeing so many good photos from Canadian parks feels like I know the place.
The stream of light in the foreground is delicious and the details on the rocks the same. The bright light, although not moody, gives a kind of clarity that reminds spring, as the bright sky.
jonathan_hart (21276) 2008-10-17 3:47
what a very calm water, your reflection is as sharp as the reality reflected
great colors with this very appealing foreground, excellent framing
stevesaba (8167) 2008-10-23 8:45
This one is stunning. Such beautiful clarity in the foreground and with that gorgeous reflection. The sky and the couds are perfect. Just a really beautiful photo! cheers,

Un petit rayon de lumière bien placé qui exalte encore davantage un paysage déjà grandiose
pierrefonds (70537) 2008-11-06 18:31
The reflections in the water are assets to the composition. the point of view leads our eyes toward the mountains in the background which is giving depth to the photo. The picture is cleard and sharp. The colors are enhanced by the quality of the light. Have a nice day.
