This is one of the most photographed places in the Canadian Rockies, because it's only about 2 km from the town of Banff, so people staying there can get there quite easily. There are a series of small lakes, called the Vermillion Lakes, over which you can view the neighbouring mountains. The large mountain in the picture is Mount Rundle, which has a very distinctive shape, with the upturned rock showing the how the Canadian Rockies were formed as flat, sedimentary rock was pushed upward.

That's indeed a classical spot for photography. I like the clouds or haze on top right, giving the impression that a storm is just about to swallow the mountain. It's a nice, clean image but the sun was already quite low and because of the low light you got pretty low contrast. Nicely composed "by the book". The light catching the top of the ridge is great and I wish there was more of it.

Very beautiful photo :) Very good composition and very pleasant colours! I especially like the reflection in the water (well, I'm sort of a fan of reflections). I also like various shades of colour. It seems that you have a strong tendency to turn your landscape photos into "paintings" (I tend to do so also) Nice notes!

A fine shot of this very familiar mountain that welcomes visitors to the Banff area. I really like how you were able to capture good detail in the foreground at the late evening hours. Very well done and TFs. Gerald

Now THIS looks familiar!
Welcome back Alvin, good to see you back here in TE- you've been missed!
I spent a couple nights in Banff and have quite a few shots of Mt. Rundle (although taken from behind you on the highway).
Getting this close to the water has afforded you some nice reflection which adds nicely to the shot. Looks a bit 'marshy', did you get wet Alvin?
Will try and get another Canada trip shot up tonight. I have 3 up there so far.

Quelle superbe photographie! Certes, l'endroit est magnifique mais c'est surtout ton sens de la composition et ta gestion de la lumière qui permettent d'obtenir une telle merveille.

yes that is the right place to hang out when the last light strucks Banff. I stood at almost the same spot as you did at my last night of my Canadian trip. The place is a real marsh and I got real wet feet during the hour that I enjoyed the view. Actually I was planning to be back at the same place in the early morning to get the comparison in light quality between sunset and sunrise, but when I woke up at 5am the whole landscape was covered by 5cm of snow!
Your last posts are really making me more and more itchy to get back with my own posts and interpretations of the Canadian Rockies.
Your composition with the grass to the right leaving space for the reflections with the last light at the tip of Mt Roundle is a very good one.

not my preferred in your pictures, the light is good on the mountain, but it is small, and the big foreground has not a good light. Maybe a closer framing would fit better?

Fantastic reflections, with a striking contrast in weather conditions, between left & right. Good colour & sharpness. Tfs!

A place less spectacular than your previous pics but still nice nature and a very cleabn rendering, the amount of detail on the foreground plants is superb as is water clarity in the middle.
Have a nice day jY

A picture with a great depth. The colors are great and especially the sun at the top of the mountain.

The reflections in the water are assets to the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward the mountains which is giving depth to the picture. The light is enhancing the colors which is giving a good contrast to them. Have a nice day.
