| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Joffre Lakes near Pemberton are a series of three brilliant blue glacial lakes, each with a backdrop of icy peaks. A good walking track takes you to all three lakes, with only 400 m elevation gain. This is the view from Middle Joffre Lake, which is my favourite. On the left is the Matier Glacier, and on the right is Mt Slalok crowned by the Stonecrop Glacier. A big cloud rears up behind Mt Slalok.
Scanned from a slide. Polariser used. This was a difficult photo because it was looking into the sun and the bright clouds, but it was such a dramatic scene I took the photo anyway. I underexposed the shot somewhat, and I used a contrast mask in Photoshop to lighten the dark bits and darken the brightest bit. I also increased the contrast in the centre of the photo because it was washed out by the bright sunlight. |
