Photographer’s Note
Every year the East Indian Punjabi community in BC get together for a celebration parade in Surrey and in Vancouver. I thought I would check it out this year seeing I have spent a good part of my working life with these people. The parade is filled with color and these children were sitting on a truck bed float enjoying the day together. I simply walked into their lives for a few short seconds and caught this photo at the widest possible lens angle with the 10-22 lens. Something about their expression and the mood of the festival allowed this opportunity to take this and a number of photos of this parade. Inside the workshops will be more photos showing the beauty of color found in this festival. A bright sunny day to capture color is always fun for me.

nice shot.
I like it.
indian communities outside india are very colourful and somehow pictoresque.
I have a similar shot in my italian gallery titled "where am I?".

Hi Paul,
How are you? Nice shot. Great contrast and sharpness. These kids look so alive here.
Every year I'm trying to attend this event, but always something happens. Maybe the next year:)

Joli "reportage" sur cet évènement. J'aime bien, en particulier, le WS1 avec la foule prise en plongée.

Hi Paul
A great shot of these young people. A real mix of culture with the youngsters in their traditional dress clutching a can of pop and a DVD. They have a proud expression on their faces.

Bonjours,

Hey Paul;
Cropping is much better suited for this shot then the previous I critiqued. It was clearly a very bright day as the contrast is very high.
As much as I like the bright whites vs grey'ish ones- compensating for that resulted in the shadows being VERY dark.
Although I'm not much of a flash user myself, I think a fill in flash would have allowed for some more detail in the kids to the left. I'm not sure if a polariser would have done the job...
In trying to correct this shot, I think you might have been better off just cropping tight on the two boys in white.
All the best Paul,
- Dan

Hi Paul,
Good frame concept and fine smiles.
The kids are lovely...
You have captured a fine moment from the day, within natural lights.. and tones.
Excellent.
