Photographer’s Note
This is the gloriously serene Lake Minnewanka, which is a short 15 minute drive from the town of Banff. The lake and surrounding mountains present so many different stunning views to take in and enjoy.
All is not perhaps what it seems...the natural shoreline of the lake has been raised by 30m by the addition of a succession of dams, the third and present dam built by the Calgary Power Co in 1941 under the War Measures Act, flooding the Devils Canyon township, the original dam (built in 1912) and the bridge at Devils Creek.
Not surprisingly, the lake is also popular with divers.
